Sleep Apnea

Recommended Posts

According to my doc, I have to bring my CPAP, which I just got a few weeks ago. He said I would need it for the recovery room. They have the anesthetic on you & the anesthesiologist is monitoring you so don't be worried at all.

Sorry...should have said according to my surgeon

I had to bring my CPAP but they kept me on oxygen for a while because I was having a tough time waking up from anesthesia I had 3 surgeries where I was put under and I def had the same problem waking up and staying awake and I really think is due to my sleep apnea over all I am hoping now since I am losing the weight my sleep apnea will go away is def a scary situation I has surgery around 8:20 am and it was 4pm and I was still in the recovery room due to I wasnt waking up or I was and then going back to sleep I am not trying to scare you just sharing my experience Doctors are always there to make sure you are fine. Good luck

During surgery, they have you on oxygen. This is through a mask or a nasal cannula. Both administer oxygen in the same way that your Cpap works. Thus, it keeps your airway open in the same way. You are told to bring it to the hospital to use during your stay. BTW, I am a little more than 3 months out, and haven't used my Cpap in about 2 months. My doc is scheduling another sleep study, but believe the apnea has resolved with my weight loss.

My surgery is Oct 14. That last time I went in for surgery, nothing to do with weight loss, was 2008. I wasn't as heavy then. I did ok during surgery but it was after they took the anesthetic & oxygen mask, a small time later, that I had problems breathing. I passed out after fighting for breath & them realizing I had problems. They then kept me on oxygen for 2 days.

This year when I was looking into wls & during my consult, my surgeon suggested I get a test for sleep apnea, when I mentioned that surgery in 2008. Truthfully I had thought that the reason I had issues was because I am allergic to all kinds of narcotic based prescriptions & they had given me some. In 2002 I flatlined because the gave me reg morphine in the recovery room.

Anyway I had my suspicions in regards to sleep apnea over the last year or so, so when forced to get tested by my surgeon, I finally went in. True enuff I tested positive. 51 events per hour.

So don't be afraid. You have all that you need to help you & the surgeon & anesthesiologist will make sure you are looked after. BariatricBarb explained the process better than I. You will be fine. Don't worry. You have your team looking after you plus your angels.

Thank you ladies for that wealth of information you all gave me. I appreciate it. We are all on an remarkable life changing journey and I'm so glad that I found this forum yesterday. I have social anxiety, and I don't have any friends or support, outside of my children. So I'm grateful for you guys. ????

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
