Failed surgery

Recommended Posts

I've been gone for a whole after being told in December that "this surgery doesn't work for everyone and you are probably one of those". Hmmm.....have been in shock/anger/depression/more shock/more anger and just resolve that it was a waste of time. At least the surgeon was honest. What I believe needs tweaking is after care for those patients who do not do well and to assist them while their window is still open.

Ooops...did you guys shelve the unhappy patient link??? Disgruntled I think it was called??? It's a reality.

If anyone reads this please know I did things by the book except go to support groups because they meet at night and I have an ill spouse I cannot leave (his caregiver goes home at 5:00 PM).

I have my one year anniversary coming up this week. What a tremendous and devastating experience this has been.

Good luck to the others of you.

Findingme, tell us more about your surgery. Have you not lost any weight? Did you ever get any fills? Did you exercise? I'm so interested in your answers to these specific questions because I'm a new band patient and have always been concerned about long-term achievement.

I'm so sorry things haven't worked out for you but talk to us and let us know exactly what has happened. If you've already done so on another thread, I apologize but I haven't been a member that long of the forum.

Thanks so much.

Findingme, I don't believe your doctor should have put it that way. No question, lap-band surgery isn't right for everyone, but if in fact one uses it to eat less then one should lose weight, period. If that hasn't been your experience, take another look at all the elements of the equation. If in fact you ARE eating less and you are NOT losing weight, there may be something physiologically wrong with your metabolism.

Start from scratch and really examine your situation. What can you change? What can't you change? You can get all the support you need right here, so in-person groups are not a deal-breaker. But the old equation is true--eat less over time, exercise more over time, lose weight over time.

So what is going on?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
