Why did I do this to myself?

Recommended Posts

I've never been so miserable and depressed. It's been two months since bypass, and two days ago I had my nonfunctional gallbladder removed. At first, I felt better - the horrible nausea a dry heaving was finally gone. Then last night, dry heaving returned with a vengeance. The thought of food is repellent. Smells make me sick.

I wish I'd never had the bypass. I feel like I'm dying slowly now, and I know that seems dramatic, but it's how I feel. I just want it all to stop.

What are your surgeons saying about the continued problems. I know it's the last thing you feel like doing right now, but it might be time to ask your doctors some serious questions. It's hard to go it alone and you shouldn't have to. Reach out to your doctors, their nurses and keep bugging them until they help you.

I had the sleeve and I feel the same way I pray for speedy recovery for us both. I've been battling hypoglycemia and dehydration for a year eating fatty foods and it's helping but the struggle is real, but God is good

If you get too weak, call an ambulance and go to the ER. It's now the weekend and the worst that could happen is they would get you rehydrated and perhaps give you some medication for the nausea.

My sister had RNY 2 years ago and felt the same way you feel... It will pass and you will be so glad you had the surgery. Just try to hang in there. I promise it gets better. We are all here to support you! These are just bumps in the road.

I had RNY July 22 and I also feel like I'm dying slowly. I've had IV fluids 3 times in the past week and nausea/diarrhea so bad I can't function. I am regretting my decision but everyone keeps saying it will get better. When? How long do I have to feel like this?

I know you have probably heard that it will get better a million times, you also probably have it heard it from people who have not had complications or even the surgery itself, but please, please let me tell it to u one more time, IT WILL GET BETTER I PROMISE. You see I had gastric bypass 8 months ago with nothing but complications from day one. Since having the surgery I have had to endure 5 hospital stays, 4 endoscopys, and 3 surgeries. And I can now say that for 3 months so far, I am feeling wonderful, whole, complete, happy, and healthy. I had so many regrets in the beginning, I cried every single day, I was mad at myself for putting myself and my family through the torture that I was going through, but if that is what I had to go through to be able to feel and look the way I do today as I'm sitting here typing this, then I will gladly go through it all over again!! So please believe that it will get better and easier, just have faith and believe that it will happen. I hope this helps, if you want to know all that I went through just email me and I will gladly tell you everything, I didn't want to post it here cause I thought it would be too long and people might not be interested in my story. Take care. :)

Thank you all for the kind words and advice. I'm hanging in there. My surgeon feels the dry heaving is due to an ulcer they found post-op. I'm on Carafate now. He said it could take weeks to improve, so I'm just praying at this point. Still weak, but I think that's due to several factors - one, I have little interest in food and can't force myself to eat much other than Soup and fruit; two, I've lost 90 pounds in three months, which I suspect is too fast; and three, two surgeries in two months. So I just need to push through it. Ugh.

I pray so hard for the day when I can say I don't regret this! I just want to feel better. That's why I made the choice to have bypass in the first place.

Also, I wish my sense of smell hadn't suddenly changed! What the heck? Everything smells so nasty now. My doc keeps asking if I'm sure I'm not pregnant, and I'm all, you've tested me THREE TIMES in the past month. Yes, I'm sure. Ugh. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
