Still too Much restriction

Recommended Posts

I am 6 months out and at goal but my only issue is eating. I never thought I would say that. I was in the gym 5 to 7 days a week but now sometimes go once. I can not eat enough. I struggle with eat one wingette. The little piece of the chicken wing. My body has toned very good because I was working out and lifting weights but no I want definition and am trying to maybe get a 6 pack. I had 4 children so I know this will be a hard task plus I was obese for so long. I am grateful for the surgery and how my body looks now but I just want muscles. I hear I have to eat lots of Protein to get this And I am struggling. Sometimes I eat some chips or ice cream to get in some calories because when I eat protein I am beyond full after a few bites. I may get 500 calories day.please, I need some advice

Look for ways to get protein/nutrients in forms that don't fill you up so quickly. Examples might be - higher calorie/high carb Protein drinks, perhaps adding a bit of Peanut Butter to a protien drink in the blender, eating nuts, etc.

Can you eat half a high calorie Protein Bar and then the other half an hour later? Are you adding healthy high fat foods to help boost calories like choosing avacados, using olive oil, avoiding "diet foods" that are low fat etc.

You got to goal really fast - at 6 months out my appetite had not yet returned so i can see where this might be a struggle. Have you contacted your surgeon/NUT yet?

It sounds like you are doing fine for now, but if you are eating so little, resorting to junky food just to get food in etc. you might be heading down a path to lose some of that great health you have worked so hard to acheive!

Perhaps try for Proteins that aren't as difficult for your body to process. I've heard some people can no longer tolerate certain animal Proteins. chicken may no longer be an option for you. Try seafood and/or plant based proteins.

I am 28 months post-op from RNY so the advice that I offer may not apply to Sleeve patients. I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods such as steaks. So I started making highly Protein fortified chili and Soups. Some recipes are included in a short article at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Protein is very important if you want to build up some muscle mass and do not like your hair falling out. So protein supplements (Protein shakes and protein bars) are good throughout the day.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
