Had my consult today

Recommended Posts

I had my consult today. I scheduled everything but the surgery. Due to my insurance not requiring a 6 month supervised diet she said I could have surgery as early as November if everything goes ok. :D

Yay!! I'm hoping for a similar outcome. My possible surgeon schedules everything for the same day..nutrition psych evaluation everything. So he can get your paperwork off. My insurance doesn't require a 6 month diet and has been known to approve within two weeks! I could be able to schedule in October!

That is awesome! I had my first consultation with my surgeon last Thursday. Due to work scheduling, I have already had three of my appointments (Program start, personal trainer meeting, and psych eval).

Today was my psych evaluation, but I am kind of nervous that the psychologist will say I am not approved...

(I am a very confident individual who has never considered my weight number as who I am... but they made it seem like I needed to be more self loathing, if that makes sense)

I am one to jump on the internet to see if there are weight restrictions or size issues when planning vacations, or choosing to sit inside at a restaurant on a beautiful day out of fear of breaking their stupid plastic chairs. I have a slow metabolism, have tried losing weight and exercising with no luck (Even stuck to things to a T and maintained or gained weight.)

So I will be totally devastated if I get a big fat (no pun intended) "No".

Fingers crossed.

looks like you and I are on the same time table. I had my consult on 9/9. My nutritionist visit is 10/2 and my psych consult is on 9/17. The initial paperwork they gave me says I do not require the six months of dietary counseling, but they also told me that was subject to change. I have several people in my office that have been to this surgeon, some had to do the additional counseling and some didn't. I don't know why that is, possibly a difference in the tier of insurance we all have (our company offers 3 plans through BCBS) Anywho, the doctor told me depending on how long it took me to get my nutrition and psych evaluation I could have surgery as soon as October!! I am so excited!!!

Maybe you and I can be buddies???

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
