Eating difficult after band removal

Recommended Posts

I'm having the same problem. I had my band removed yesterday 9/18 and I get full and bloated very fast. I can not eat anymore than I could before I had it removed. I had the band implanted in 2007 - so maybe my stomach will need to stretch out or something..?..I hope in time (a very short amount if time) I'll be able to eat normal healthy meals, instead of soft mushy food all the time! I also have a lot of pain in my left shoulder, neck and belly area from the Co2 they used in surgery - I cant wait till that goes away so I can take a full deep breath!

I hope you can eat normally soon also! Best of luck to you!

I also had mine removed on 9/17 I was told to do Clear liquids for 3 days then slowly begin eating soft foods. I too feel a delay when slowling. Yes like restriction. I think over a few weeks it may relax to its normal shape.

I haven't spoken to my doc yet. I remember her saying everything went well.

Did you have repais done to a hiatel Hermia?

I had my lap band removed a week ago after having it for 10 years. I assumed eating would go back to normal right away but it hasn't. I can eat, but it still feels like I'm restricted, like the band is still there. Even drinking liquids (especially at night) hasn't been smooth sailing. I don't see my doctor for a post op appointment for two more weeks. I do remember him saying there will be scarring where the band was and I'm wondering does this heal? Will I ever be able to eat like a normal person again? My doctor also said lap band surgery is a thing of the past. Sometimes I feel like such a fool for jumping on the "band wagon."

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
