Go-to sleevey snack

Recommended Posts

Ok, that's a bad play on "Scooby Snacks" but whatever... I've heard a lot about the sense of urgency people get if they forgot to eat and need to eat ASAP. But, what do you keep on hand in case your stuck without options? Like, a meeting goes over and it's time to eat? Do you have a Protein Bar? It seems like that would be too filling. And what if you haven't graduated to that? Do you just cart around a warm Protein Shake? Trying to be prepared and set myself up for success. TIA!!

Get a small lunch bag and keep an ice pack in it with a Protein Shake, yogurt, cheese, ect... I go to college and I there from 8:15am -4:00 pm so I have to bring stuff with me. I just keep my lunch bag in my backpack or messenger bag. Being prepared is key!

I keep string cheese or a small slim jim type of meat thingy

Or even lunch meat and cheese --- ham or turkey or even salami rolled up with a piece of cheese -- personally, i'm not worried about it for a few hours.

You could also get a powdered Protein shake and a half frozen bottle of Water and make a drink in a pinch.

Nuts, Jerky, cheese, fruit (obviously some of these are for a little further out from surgery).

Ok, thanks all. Some good ideas here. I'm nervous about the liquid stages, but I think I might need to steal my toddlers sippy cup cooler and throw a shake in my over-stuffed work bag.... Or maybe I just drink it warm...meh, idk.

Greek yogurt, lunchmeat, string cheese, hard boiled eggs (though sometimes I still have trouble with them at 9 months out)...sometimes I like to get the frozen grilled chicken chunks and by the time I'm ready for them, they're thawed. Those are okay to just eat if you can't heat them up.

Premier isn't terrible warm, though :)

I am also a big fan of P3 snacks! They are made by Oscar Meyer and consist of a small amount of meat, cheese, and nuts. I carry with me to work all of the time.

@Mega_100 P3's are the best invention ever! You can find them in the sandwich meat/hot dog/ section of your grocery store ... and even some convenience stores carry them now!

As stated above ... there is a little bit of cut up meat/cheese and nuts ... there are several different kinds ... and I have one for lunch everyday ...

its just enough :)

then I'll have a string cheese for snack ... and Protein shake for my afternoon pick me up ... I double it shot my shake though ... I use half of a carton of pre-made with a scoop of Protein powder ... extra Protein and tastes good too!

I carry a huge bottle of Water with me ... along with a smaller bottle of Powerade Zero ...

The lunch bag is my 2nd purse ... At least now I'm out of the pill crushing stage ... so thank Goodness I don't have to carry that around anymore ...

You will definitely find what works for you ... everyone has a little tip or trick ... :)

Oo! I love grilled chicken--great idea! P3 sounds like a good on-the-go snack, too (which is VERY helpful).

My tip - stay away from snacking. Unless you are a diabetic or have other serious, documented blood sugar level problems, you don't need it. Plan for and stick with your three meals a day.

@@Mega_100 P3's are generally in the lunch meat section, they are like lunchables. they have diced eat, diced cheese and nuts. Perfectly portioned, and great protein!! (genereally 15 gms) It is a meal for me. I don't actually snack. I don't have room to snack. (4 1/2 months post op)

Ok, thanks. The goal would obviously be to plan for three meals on schedule, but unfortunately with work and a toddler, things don't always go as I plan. So, trying to prepare in advance for anything. Thanks for the tips everyone!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
