My doc says no, Protein Shakes do not count towards the 64oz of liquid they want you to drink

And my doctor said they do count as fluids.

So the best answer? Ask your own NUT or surgeon.

I was told Protein Shakes do count towards the fluids. Also Jello, popcicles and of course broths. I am one week post-op and taking in as much fluids as possible, but I know it isn't 64 ounces. As long as you are urinating frequently and doing the best you can, that's all you can do. :)

My understanding is yes if you consume the Protein as a liquid.

I'm 9 days post op and really struggling with my Protein intake as we'll as fluids. Could you drink on a Protein Shake all day long? Or should you only drink those at a meal or snack time? Open to any suggestions !!

I drank all day long at 9 days out.

Hi,

I am 9 days out too and I am barely able to take more than one shake a day. I am drinking more Water but not the 64oz I need. It is a work in progress. Just keep sipping.

My doctor says no but my NUT says yes. She said I can count 65% of my Premier Protein shake as Water.

My NUT said no - the 64 oz is Water only. As has been said, check with your doc/NUT.
