I made it. I am an official bander. Band was installed on 10/26/2004 however all was not smooth sailing for me. I was released from the hospital on the morning of the 27th even though I had vomited several times and was not holding my fluids. I was told the swelling around the band would subside and liquids will soon pass to the stomach. I made it until the afternoon of the 28th still vomiting and very discouraged. The doctors assured me all is ok and sent me to the ER for 2 litres of IV fluids. Afternoon of the 29th still vomiting very sore and doctors re admitted me to the hospital to keep me hydrated anfd perform a barium swallow X ray. The swelling finally went down and fluids started to pass on 11/03 one full week after the surgery. I was released on the 4th and am taking it slow at home for the rest of the week. I weighed in before surgery @ 297 and came home at 281.

The doctors tell me every persons body reacts differant to the intrussion of the band. Have any of you had an expierience of a week of nausea and vomiting after surgery?

I am thrilled that I have little or no desire to eat. I have trouble getting my dailey fluids in as I feel "tight" most of the time. My energy level is fair to medium.

I am not trying to post a negative story but want to help others understand that the body reacts differant for all.

Thanks for listening. The hardest part of all of this was the boredom of a 1 week hospital say.

Oh yeah. One more thing. I would do it over in a heartbeat because I will soon be a normal size man.

Way to go Scott! Glad your feeling better and the swelling went down. Imagine your band tightening up like that once a month! Thats the way it is for some of us ladies! I'll not go into details on that one I'm sure you get the picture.

Anyway, your weight loss id great! At your rate you'll pass up your goal weight by the time March comes around!! Keep up the good work & thanks for keeping us posted on things.

Welcome home Scott! So sorry to hear of your terrible swelling and post-op stay. Yes. I have heard a few others who had this post-op swelling for the first few days. It does sound tough, but I think most of them are now well on their way to being much healthier and glad they did it. I'm really glad you're over the worst part and now on your way too. You've already got a great start on losing, although I'm sure it would have been easier to have done it without being so sick. :D

Glad you're home and doing better now! Good luck to you!

Leatha

Congratulations on getting banded, Scott, even though it sounds as if you had a rough time of it. Things do get easier after that first week -- even for those of us who didn't suffer the complications that you had. Just one word of caution: not to discourage you, but don't get disappointed or down on yourself if you don't hit 200 lbs. by March 7. It could certainly happen, but that's only a little more than four months after your band. Anyway, no matter what the scale reads, you're on the right track, and now that you're out of the hospital for good you should have smooth sailing. Welcome to Bandland!

Scott, so glad to hear that you're doing so much better! (Pssst...In case you didn't know it, you have a very loving wife and family.) Hope all continues to go smoothly from now on for you. Now, you and your wife get some rest this weekend, o.k.? And keep drinking that water!

Wow, Scott! What a rough time! I am so sorry that you had such an unpleasant week. My doctor made it clear that he did NOT want me vomiting at all. He gave me lots of nausea pills in case I needed them. But, like you said, every body is different, and I guess every doctor is different, too. Anyway good luck with your weight loss! I just got my first "fill" today, and I am hoping the pounds start coming off a little faster now. Welcome to the forum.

Gee, Scott, it sounds like they should have used the new larger band on you. I bet you will make that 200 by March with no problem. Men tend to lose quicker and you've had the quick start method. :ermm:

I swell up quite a bit, too, although I did not swell shut. Yikes! If you end up being restricted right off like some of us, it will be a quick and dirty adjustment, but the weight loss is great. Good luck with the journey. :)

Glad to see you came home with your new band. It's like bringing home a baby that needs special care and love. Take care of your band, and your band will take care of you. I'm glad you're back. Great luck to you!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
