Not knowing how to feel

Recommended Posts

I am a 31 year old mother of 7 and I had my surgery May 26th 2015. My starting weight was 298, at my 3 month check I was down to 222. I have lost 78lbs. I'm happy about the weight coming off and have awesome supportive family, friends, and coworkers. The problem is I have a hard time making myself eat and I know I'm not eating enough. Plus even tho I'm happy part of me is depressed and sometimes I feel so alone. Everyone tells me how good I look and things like that but nothing fits right and I just don't see what they see.....

Just wondering if anyone else had similar issues.....

Oh, sweetie you are NOT alone! We all go through depression with this procedure, your body (and mind) have many changes to go through, and sometimes it is just too much to comprehend, because it all happens so quickly. You should be so proud of your accomplishments, and you are just beginning!!! If you're not happy with what the scale says, take measurements instead, they tend to show success when scales don't.

Then, if you can, go shopping for some new duds. Thrift shops are great for interim clothing sizes, and something new and different may be just the thing to pick you up. Try new colors and styles, be adventurous!

Do something you haven't tried before, a new sport or hobby. Doing different things you haven't done before is a real pick-me-up, as well.

All of these ideas should be treated as gifts to yourself...something to look forward to, and ALWAYS look forward! Remember, you gave yourself this precious gift of WLS. Now USE it to the fullest, and ENJOY it!!!!

Good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
