Hang in there @@LMolina1987! The first days of the pre-op diet are terrible, but little by little as the hours go by, your body seems to go into numb mode and hopefully then, it won't be so hard for you. You've gotten some great advice already, keep your head busy, video games, an old rubik's cube really did it for me. Also, if you can't tolerate chicken broth have you tried bean broth? Loaded with Iron and easy for the stomach to tolerate. Best of the best wishes and virtual hugs go out to you, keep strong and be well.

I'm thinking maybe turn the anger into a punching bag at the gym! My surgery is on Sep 22 and I too really hate this liquid diet but am glad that I have the support of people here to try to stay positive. Just the visual of the punching bag is making me feel better!

Yes. I lost 15 pounds before seeing my surgeon. So all I have to do at this point is maintain my weight and not gain. The surgeon was cool with the weight I lost so far and sad I didn't have to meet a weight requirement. So right now I put myself on a 1300 calorie diet unit I have to start the pre-op diet.

I lost 14 pounds now he said we agreed to be 295 and we never agreed to it we said 9 pounds. I'm honestly over him.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
