Article about the Youtube video - Dear Fat People

Recommended Posts

Hello - I recently read this article. Not a fan of the title or the Youtube video but I get it. In fact, a lot of her advice resonates with me. I hope you find it useful too.

Hey! I wrote that article! :P

I've been browsing this site on and off for a bit and just registered so I could reply. First, thanks for reading it! I'm not sure if you're referring to the title of my article but it came from a YouTube video I saw with blink-182 being silly. One of the band members is playing an acoustic guitar and sings the line: "I'm fat, so what? Don't judge. My butt." In short, I couldn't think of a good title for the post (it was also late) so I went with that.

Anyway, I'd love to know what advice of hers resonated with you?

Nice blog post, Jeff.

I haven't seen that video, though I've read about it and seen a few vlogs in response. (In particular, the one from Whitney whateverhernameis with the show on TLC - and that bothered me more than what's purportedly in the original video.)

Why I like your post is because, well, it's real. You don't shy away from the fat issue. It always bothers me how people dance around my weight - as if I don't know I'm fat and they're afraid to be the one to point it out, or something. Find me a fat person who doesn't know they're fat! Really.

I truly can't stand Nicole Arbor. I just want to find a bunch of "fat people" that "smell like sausages" and doggie pile her.

Did you see her on "The View?" Whoopie Goldberg let her have it!

I am usually a very nice person online. Truly. I hate trolls and trolling is super not my thing. But that girl has no sense of empathy and its frankly terrifying. #ByeFelicia

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
