Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted September 20, 2015 I am five months out and still don't do lettuce well. I am more likely to add sliced Tomato and/or cucumber to my meal than to eat a salad. To me lettuce just adds bulk that takes away from room for Protein. If you are having trouble getting in your Protein, then you definitely need to focus on eating protein first and avoiding fillers. Eating protein first will also help you feel more satisfied.
Kristin Irvine 1 Posted September 22, 2015 Is lettuce ok to eat, I had heard it is not to good for digestion. It is so hard I love salads.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted September 30, 2015 Is lettuce ok to eat, I had heard it is not to good for digestion. It is so hard I love salads. It depends on how far along in your program you are and if you are able to get in your Protein first. Lettuce takes a lot of valuable room (the reason it's such a good choice for pre-op diets) and is fibrous (the reason you may have difficulty digesting it post-op). As long as it's allowed by your NUT, you can still get in your program, and it doesn't cause you digestive issues I would think it would be fine.
WL WARRIOR 692 Posted September 30, 2015 I eat tons of lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, and leafy greens in general with some kind of vinegar dressing (Walden, low calorie Italian, sugar free balsamic). In fact, I eat it everyday in a salad combined with cut up fish. I've found that eating the same meals everyday have helped me be successful. All the leafy greens weren't added into my diet until 6 months post op. My stomach did make some weird gurgling noses when I first started adding in all the green vegetables. However, it doesn't do it so much anymore unless I overdo it or eat too fast. All this fibrous roughage has alleviated my Constipation problems and helped me stay hydrated. It's nice to not have to depend on Miralax or Smooth Move tea anymore. The only downside to eating mostly plant based is the price of all the vegetables.
