popsicles 101

Recommended Posts

I am allowed to eat popsicles for Snacks pre-op.

I havent had a popsicle since I was a little girl. Can anyone recommend a popsicle brand that tastes really tastey? Oh I suppose it needs to be SF as well. Some of my favorite flavors are Grape, cherry, strawberry or if there are new and inproved ones with exotic flavors like pineapple/coconut? Is there any popsicle that comes in chocolate flavor?

Sorry to go on and on about this, but It's kind of important to me.

Thanks go to anyone who has some recommendations for me in the area of pre/op diet.:)

I am not a big fan of the sugarfree popsicles, so I'm kind of a picky snob when it comes to the taste. I agree w/losing, SF fudgesicles are in general pretty good.

I do like the sugarfree Edy's fruit pops. I also like the Shrek Swamp Pops, NOT sugarfree, but still only 30 calories and two flavors each. Breyer's makes a no sugar added Pure Fruit bar that's 25 calories. You just have to experiment.

Sam's has a wonderful sf popsicle that comes in a blue box of 40 count. Sorry, but I can't remember the name. They are only 10 calories and come in a variety pack of orange, strawberry, and I believe raspberry, but the best thing is that the ice is very similar to the shaved ice sno cones, very soft and not crunchy...very yummy!

I love Wal-Mart's sugar free ice pops. 10 calories of yummy deliciousness. They come in a rainbow of flavors and every single one is good, even the neon blue one. We don't have Wal-Mart in the city and it's my favorite treat anytime I get out of town....

Popsicle makes a pineapple flavor that I like. I have never seen the Walmart brand in Walmart. I like the sugar free creamsicles too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
