LosingJustMe...

From your sig:

>>i wanna change this ticker ... frown.gif<<

Did you know that if you clear your Cookies you have to completely redo your ticker in order to change it?

I just figured that out this morning. :)

I'm 340 lbs and in really bad shape. It hurts to walk or do pretty much any activity. Just going to the mall for an hour or two can put me in bed for a week. Any suggestions from people who have been where I am?

I am with you and understand your plight. I am getting out my old Richard Simmons videos for inspiration. That guy really understood how hard it is to move at our size because he was there himself once and overcame it. Plus he is very positive and I love the 80's music that goes along with his workouts. He says just do what you can and before you know it you will be doing more and more.

Band Chick, this may seem silly to you but I've been doing it lately. Since I'm severely addicted to the Internet (specifically, THIS site), I've been listening to super high energy music while I'm online and when I'm reading posts I just move my arms up and down, round and round, back and forth and I can already feel some strength returning to my arms after a totally sluggish summer. Good luck!

When I first started thinking about exercising after being banded,,I was mortified. I'd not done anything strenuous in so long(other than go to LPN school) I joined a place at a local hospital called Healthline. It is a gym and an indoor pool(and a therapy pool). I go to Water aerobics 3 times a week, one hour session plus I do 30 more minutes. My left knee is shot, so it really helps to be in the water rather than pounding it out on a hard surface. PLUS,,,I ENJOYYYYYYYYY it! That's a big deal with me,,I have to enjoy what I'm doing or I wont stick with it.

I hate any exercise other than walking, like I have to force myself, and then I usually quit shortly afterward. I was attempting a curves-like place for a while, but after I had my baby, and with my husband working 3rd shift, there was just no time to go (excuses excuses, right?) Anyways, it may sound silly, but I live in a small apartment, just big enough to put my 2 month old in a small stroller, and I push her from my living room down the hallway in the bedroom and back out. I started at a half hour, and sometimes work my way up to 2 hours. I may look silly, but why it works for me (an exercise-hater) is that, for me, mentally, i don't look at it as exercise. It is something fun to do with my daughter an she loves it, an now it is a part of our every day, an i look forward to it, hate to miss it. Crazy huh? It is what works for me. I cannot wait until the temp goes down a bit, and I can bring her outside and do our walk. Perhaps for some of us, exercise is a dirty word, an doing something else actively is the key. I know when I am outside with my daughter, my biggest fear is some jerk is going to look at me funny or say something because of me exercising "in public" (like its a bad thing, but I know alot of people are scared of this besides me). So to relax about this I just think, "I'm not doing it for me, a-hole, I'm doing it for her," (the walking, but also the weight loss). For me it is what works. She's my "reason" and since it works, I'm not going to second guess it.

Vessa, what ever works for you!!! Ya know, you won't always put your baby in a stroller and walk around your apt. She will grow and get bigger and then you will do something else. I think the important thing that you are doing is DOING SOMETHING!! Good Job!! Some people say to themselves, tomorrow I will start doing something and then tomorrow comes and they say it again and again until they are here on this site getting surgery!!! You are doing awesome, be proud, and if someone does say something to you, reply with "you should of seen me 800 pounds ago!!!!!"....that might shut them up!!

I have a little update... I started using the ball all the time and over did it. LOL I know it sounds silly but I already have knots in my shoulders and back and they got much worse from the ball, as well as walking a bit more. So frustrating!!! So, I went to my regular Dr. She put me on the usual muscle relaxers, told me to take it easy for a while and start with shorter periods of time and build up. I so look forward to Bandland and getting some of this painful weight off!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
