Every diet ive ever tried has worked great, its maintaining that i have issues with and most WLS patients are the same. WLS requires a change in eating for sure to be successful as well. To answer your question, yes you can be successful losing weight with dieting programs, its the maintaining part that is tough for most of us. Sleeves are an amazing tool no doubt :)

I agree and I love my sleeve. I feel somewhat "normal" now.

I remember my dad asking me, "Are you sure you can give up all the foods you love?" My response was, "Dad, I've eaten enough bread for a lifetime. It's time to stop." He also asked, "Are you sure you can't do this on your own?" Really? I'm 44 years old - I haven't been able to so far, I doubt giving it one more try is going to work.

I think you're right - it's fear. Fear of the unknown and something maybe they don't fully understand. I know I didn't fully understand weight loss surgery before I started researching it for myself.

If you're fully committed and can answer their questions with solid facts and conviction that this is the right thing for you right now, they'll see it's the right thing.

Unless someone in the family has had a massive weight issue and been willing to admit that they have a weight issue, it is hard for them to understand. I have been willing to consider the surgery for about four years now, but in the time I went from 300 lbs down to 180 while working on a hospital floor, howeven once I left that floor and went to a desk job, I have now gained back 60 lbs, up to almost 240. Some of that is my own fault, and some if the fact that I cannot workout 3-4 horus a day to make up the time that I used to run around for a 12 hour shift. My mom is having trouble understanding that as she has never had a bad weight issue. I have spent the last month explaining how it works to her, always being hungry, and really having no off switch to stop me from overeating. She is very OCD about many things, and just lost my dad three years ago and I think she is afraid something is going to go wrong. But as a nurse and I have explained how many health conditions I can develop from the size that I am. I work with these people every day who have had heart attacks, strokes, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even more. Trying to help get her more information, I have invited her to the information sessions and sent her links to expain more. I think she is slowly starting to come around, but I am sure we will not have the support of some of my husband's family, and unfortuantely that is something that happens.

I used to work fast food and was on my feet 12 hours at a time and that kept my weight down now I'm at a desk job and I've gained literally 100 pounds in 3 years

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
