I have lost 80 lbs. since my surgery in June 2015. I've been working out an hour a day, every day. I watch everything I eat like a hawk. I've been losing really well, but now I see to be at a stall that is lingering into a 3rd week. I am barely cracking 2 lbs. lost per week. Has anyone else had this kind of slow down during the same time period?

I've only lost 2-3 lbs a week since the second month, but yes - my dietitian said a stall around the three month mark is pretty common.

So when does weight loss start speeding up again?

not sure - although you've been a really fast loser. It could be that it might be the new norm for you - but I'm not sure. It could very well speed up for you again. Like I said, I dropped a lot the first month post-surgery, but then it's been about 2-3 lbs a week ever since (I had my surgery in June as well)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is normal to slow down after that first initial big loss. It also depends on how much you have to lose. If I lose 10lbs per month now I am lucky. I slowed down after the first 3 months but the important thing is I have still been losing. I was right around 80lbs lost at that point. I am now down 120lbs.

Also a stall is no weight lost. 2 lbs per week is excellent! Think about before surgery, when were you last losing 2lbs per week?

I know this is not what you want to hear but it is reality. You are doing fantastic!

The amount of Protein you consume is the sum of the Protein from meals combined with the protein from supplements (Protein shakes and protein bars). At 3 months out, you meal volume has increase. If you are concentrating on consuming high protein meals, this gives you the option of reducing the amount of protein supplements that you need to take to meet your minimum requirements and the extra calories they contain.

I hit a plateau around the same timeframe and I dropped a Protein shake (3 per day down to 2) and my stall came to an end.

My basic day consists of 2 shakes and 4 oz of food. I'm a vegetarian and I average between 550-750 calories a day and 70 - 100g of Protein. My NUT told me that I'm fine with only eating 4 oz a day. He said the average caloric intake at this point is somewhere between 400 - 800 calories a day.

I'm starting to wonder if I should let the Protein Shakes handle the Protein and make my meals non-starchy vegetables since nothing else has changed.

I lost 32 lbs. prior to surgery. 13 of those pounds were because of the liquid diet. I have lost 51 lbs. since June 15. I have been faithfully going to the gym and working out daily. I started by walking 30 minutes a day and I am now up to 1 hour a day. I also began lifting weights once I got the clearance from my surgeon. The exercise has really helped. I feel better now that I have felt in years. I have gone from a couch potato to being active every day.

I think the key to success is to do EXACTLY what your surgeon/team tells you do. I use a food scale everyday and I track all my intake on myfitnespal.com. I bought a fitness tracker, the Misfit Shine, and it provides motivation for the exercise. I almost bought a Fitbit, but they aren't waterproof.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
