Embarrassed to go swimming

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

I wanted to get some advice from you all. I'm still self conscious. I really would like to go swimming, plus it's a great exercise. But what can I wear to swim and not look like a fool?

Thanks

I don't know. You do need to wear a bathing suit. There are so many to choose from. I prefer a two-piece tankini. I get mine from Woman Within. They have some where you can choose the tops and bottoms separately. They also have swim shorts and cover ups. I haven't been buying many new clothes but I have bought two new bathing suits since my surgery. One size smaller than pre-surgery and one size smaller than that waiting in the wings.

The most important thing to do is swim.

I wore a bathing suit at my highest weight of 565 pounds.

For me, I personally don't care what other people think about how I look. I won't die of embarrassment, but it is a very real possibility that I could die of obesity.

Hopefully, once you realize how good it feels and how much you can move in the Water you will either forget about or not care about feeling like you look like a fool.

I usually opt for a one-piece with matching shorts - and i wear the shorts in the Water. Although recently I bought a two-piece tankini sort of thing that's bottom piece has an "apron" over the front of shorts - so sort of a culotte-looking thing. That works as well...

Aquatard. Keeps the thighs tight, covers everything, and I wear a shirt over it so it looks like bike shorts and a big shirt.

Swimsuitsforall online store has them in plus and regular sizes. They really do help with the confidence in Water since the giggles are covered more.

Hi, like sadhatter, I recomment www.swimsuitforall.com They have beautiful bathing suits in all sizes. 1 piece, tankinis, what you like.

If you feel your thighs are big, you can get a tankine with something that looks like a bike short, it is very flattering and you should feel comfortable with it.

Embarrassed? You go for yourself dear, the HELL with anybody looking at you. In a bathing suit, you see all kinds....Get a bathing suit you feel comfortable with and GO FOR IT

I just wear a tankini and throw on some mens swimming trunks.

I wear a tankini with a skirt bottom. It has like a regular swim suit underneath for added support with the skirt looser. I'm very self cautious. This past summer I went to a Water park and I found out it could be so much worse and I'm sure it was at one point to wear a swimsuit.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
