MBollinger 15 Posted September 7, 2015 I am at the beginning of my journey as I just got my referral to go see a doc that is going to help me get m surgery, I was wondering about the 6 month pre op weight loss that I am hearing so much about is this for all insurance or just a certain one? The reason why I ask is I have really bad arthritis in my hips and my back so it is kind of hard for me to get the work out that I need daily that's why my doc and myself are going this route I can't wait to see how this is all going to work any help would be appreciated also was wondering because we have plans to move out of state and I am not wanting to start this process all over again
laguerr13 993 Posted September 7, 2015 (edited) I can try but everyone's surgeon and all insurances are different, my pre op went 3 months because I didn't know I had to have some out of pocket up front that insurances don't cover, if I had the money it would have been a little over a month, my dietician visits were set at 3, 2 prior and 1 right before surgery then it went quick, I was at 388lbs in January then in April on my first visit I was at 346lbs, my surgery was June 10th and I was at 346lbs on the day, I also have severe arthritis in my knees and arms and back, so what I did was follow the strict diet, and you may have to research but for cardio they recommend swimming and Water exercises, if you attend a gym there is a technique to get in your cardio with weight training, I can't give you advise cause I am new to this technique and I wouldn't want you to get hurt so you will need to research or google it, it involves using lighter weights on the circuit machines, you place the weights at a lot lower than your max, then you alternate between machines working each part with only 30 seconds max between sets, or machines basically like "speed golf" let's say you want bicep tricep tomorrow, then you start on a bicep exercise 1 set about 15 reps, then move to a tricep machine within 30 seconds and do 1 set of 15 again and so forth until your exhausted, the idea or theory is you get to work out your muscles and increase your heart enough to get the cardio going, good luck and don't give up if you hit hurdles.......
