What is the elusive "sweet spot?"

Recommended Posts

Had my third fill on Saturday, at first doc put in 2ml as I have lost absolutely nothing (in fact gained 2 kg!!). Drank some Water but did no go through, just sat there so he took out 1ml, water went through OK. Rest of the day was spent trying to eat something without it geting stuck, was really bad. Anway, that night had mashed potatoe and mince and amount that I could eat was reduced but after 2 hours was hungry again and ate 2 pieces of toast. I am starting to think that the lapband is just not right for me, could 1ml in fill really make that much of a difference. People on here keep talking about their "sweet spot" but I am not really sure what this actually means. I am just sick of it not working for me and everything getting stuck all the time.

Banded on the 26th February 2007 (and have lost nothing!!!!!!)

Hi there! I don't know how long you've been banded, but it sounds like you don't have proper restriction yet. Can you make an appointment to talk to your Dr. about your frustrations? Sometimes it takes 5 or more fills to find that sweet spot. That includes unfills, etc.....

Sorry to hear you're so frustrated, but try to hang in there. I know how you're feeling.....I'm sitting at my first fill and not losing, so I can comisserate!

Cheers,

Toni

youve only been banded since march?????????????????:omg: Ok lets get honest here. I was banded in june of 05 and I still don't have a sweet spot. This band is a tool we have to learn to use. It does take time to learn to make it work. It takes time for us to work at breaking old bad habits and to get the right fill ammount. So don't be so hard on yourself. It's not coming off over night. But it will come off. And slower is better than not at all. I know this as a fact because I have not lost any lbs for a year. But I have stay the same. So Frustration I know about. But to be without my band is a frightening thought. I am learnig every day.

and I know I'll get there. You will too

What I keep trying to get answers to is what does the sweet spot FEEL like??? I don't know if I am supposed to be able to eat normal foods, just in tiny amounts or if people who feel they are at their sweet spot are really limited to what they can eat . . . I would LOVE to know this . . .

I was banded on 1-12-07 and have had 3 fills for a total of 2.2ccs in a 4cc band.

Thanks,

Lynn

It all depends on what I eat and the texture. I think my sweet spot is when I eat a bandster size portion and I am satisfied. I could eat every 2 hours but I am just not interested anymore.

At one cookout on the 4th I ate about 6 or 7 grippo bbq chips before meal. I ate about 1/3 bratwurst and 2 rounded tablespoons of baked Beans.

Later I ate petite 2 inch by 2 inch of coconut cake.

Junk,Protein,protein,junk.

For me I am in my sweet spot. I had no desire to eat anymore in that 6 hour period of time. Of course I was sipping on liquid the whole time .

If your food is getting stuck, you are not chewing enough and you are taking too big of bites. That is not the sweet spot. The sweet spot is getting full on a small amount of food and staying full for a few hours.

After a fill, you are supposed to be on liquids for 24 hours.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
