Not Feeling Full @ 4 days post op...Normal?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I am 4 days post op and am so far able to tolerate most of the things on my diet plan. I am sticking to the recommended portion sizes (for instance 1/2 cup of creamed Soup or 1/4 c of applesauce or yogurt) and never going over.

My problem is, I don't have the feeling of being full. I feel like I could've had more than just 1/2 cup of Soup if I wanted to, but since I'm so scared of throwing up and being in even more pain than I'm in now, I stopped after that 1/2 cup was gone. I alternated between soup and applesauce, taking a bite each minute. That seems to be working well for me, and I will continue on this path.

As I mentioned before, I am still in a considerable amount of pain. If I am feeling full, I wouldn't know because of the pain I'm in. Is this normal?

Is the "full feeling" different from the pain? Is it too soon to feel full?

Any information you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated! TIA!!

(and yes I'm walking, taking in my fluids and Protein and will start Vitamins tomorrow... =)

At 4 days post op on was still on liquids, but had a hard time getting in the recommended amount of liquid. Do you feel hungry, or just not full?

you may not feel "full" for awhile - your nerves were cut. Just eat according to your program. I know it takes some getting used to, but....

@@Spiceyfrog I don't feel hungry or full at all! If I didn't have to eat, I wouldn't. I'm actually doing ok with the Fluid intake, its the Protein I'm having a hard time getting in. Those shakes don't taste the same anymore...

@@catwoman7 That's exactly what I've been doing, sticking to the program.

Thank you both for your responses..I wasn't sure if it was normal or not but it sounds like it is. I appreciate the feedback :)

I'm almost four months out and don't remember feeling full yet. Usually I just eat what I know I can eat with no hunger or "full" cues. Occasionally, I'll feel this acid-y feeling in my stomach (sort of like reflux) when I'm eating, and then I know I need to stop right then or else I'm probably going to vomit.

I'm 6 days post op and I know exactly what your talking about .. you're not feeling satisfied! I'm all liquids right now until this Wednesday with my follow up where I can move to puréed foods... but it's frustrating.I still get pain or burning when i swallow but it's more manageable now.. and my Fluid intake has been good.. I could drink alittle more Water but I'm concentrating more on my protien at the moment. but after everything I ingest I don't have a satiated feeling. I'm pretty sure this is something we'll have to learn to manage. I feel like it might be a mental satisfaction more than a physical. But I guess we'll find out more as time goes! Good luck !

I am 8 weeks out and while I don't have a "full" feeling I get sick of eating whatever it is I'm eating. A few bites in and I'm no longer interested in eating but in order to make sure I stay on track I kinda force feed the meal to the measurement I'm suppose to have in order to get in the Protein and nutrients.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I feel much better about the situation!!!!

@@ticker83 That's kind of where I was at yesterday. I really didn't want to finish the Soup I was eating but forced myself to do it just because I knew if I didn't, I'd be robbing myself of the Protein and nutrients too. I feel like I'll be in this boat for a while.

This is normal. As soon as you start getting your full Protein amount it will straighten out. EVERYONE seems to expect to much and too soon and this surgery is a major big deal on your system. Relax a little let it work for you and it WILL get better promise

I'm four days out and feel the same. I kind don't care if I have anything; I just do it cause I know I need Protein. I did find when I drank several ounces of protein at once, I had bad GI distress. Today my strategy has been to take a few sips of protein, some sips of Water and then more sips of protein. My GI distress has been better and I'm actually on track for my Fluid and protein goals today -yay! Good luck and hang in there!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
