RNY DIDNT WORK

Recommended Posts

I am just curious.... Is there anyone in this forum in which the RNY surgery didn't work for them. Meaning not much weight or any weight was lost. I am entering my third on Tuesday and I hit a stall on week two. I haven't lost any weight for a week now even though I have amped my activity levels. Walking more and being more active . Met with nutritionist this past week over concerns of not losing and she told me it was normal. However I am still worried that this might not work because I have been keeping up with Protein and Water intake as instructed and have been doing moderate exercise and not one pound has been lost. So far I have only lost 17 pounds in three weeks.

Are you saying you've lost 17 pounds in your first three weeks since surgery? That sounds pretty normal and like it's working. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

I think you might want to recalibrate your expectations. Everyone stalls, and everyone loses at different rates at different times. You are still recovering from major surgery. Listen to your surgeon. Listen to your NUT. And, stay off the scale.< /p>

I lost the first two weeks and almost nothing during the third week like 1 or 2 pounds. Then started again. The pace has picked up now. My nutrionist and nurses have warned that stalls can and do happen not to worry about it. Good luck and follow the instructions.

I am right with you 1st 2 weeks lost 20 then week 3 nothing! Up a pound then down all week. I was worried just like you were. I hope this is just a stall and weight loss will pick up. It seems impossible to not lose!

I'm in the same boat as you. I literally just came back from the doctor's office, and I've lost 15 pounds since the day of surgery in three weeks. I'm feeling frustrated and discouraged, though logically I know that 15 pounds in three weeks isn't anything to laugh at. We both have to just be patient, stick to the plan, and stop being so discouraged. We knew this wasn't a magic surgery that was going to fix years of being overweight overnight. Keep your chin up. :)

I'm going on my fourth week of not losing. It's not my first stall and it won't be my last. As long as you are doing what your surgeon and NUT tell you, you will start losing. This is normal at 3-4 weeks. Hang in there, the best is yet to come!!

Apparently normal. First 2 weeks lost 25. 3rd week nothing, now 4th week dropped 3 more. It's normal : )

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
