Pre-Op Diet - Dr. Collier

Recommended Posts

I am so confused. I feel like I have to literally "pull teeth" to get answers from the Dr.'s office.

I went on Friday to get some Protein supplement for the 2-week pre-op diet. I am scheduled for 7/26 so I will start this diet on Wed. 7/11.

What am I supposed to/not supposed to eat during this two weeks? I'm really stressing over this.

I met a very nice patient of Dr. Collier's in the waiting room on Fri. and she recommended a book, which I have ordered and will be here on Tuesday. She said it will be like my "bible" during this period of pre and post-op.

Can any one give me a sample menu for a day of pre-op dieting? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Jenny,

Did you get the answers to your questions about your pre-op diet? You should've gotten some written instructions from the nurse. What flavor AmazeRX did you choose? I love the vanilla and the Mocha Zap. I'm on my 4th container already! Cha-Ching!!!!! I still love to drink my Protein shakes post-banding. This is what I have about the pre-op diet:

Breakfast: I serving of 2 of the following:

yogurt, fruit, Cereal, toast, Bagels, waffles, muffins, eggs or oatmeal. (I stuck to oatmeat, coffee, and yogurt---but I was only on the diet for a week....long story!)

lunch: AmazeRX shake

dinner: 1 serving lean meat, one serving veggie (have some skinless chicken and a veg of your choice, or a pork steak, or a fish filet, etc....) Go to Pappasitos and have a fajita without the tortilla and cheese/sour cream. You get the gist....

Night-time Snack: AmazeRX shake

....and because you are STARVING on this diet, you can supplement between meals with salad all you want....just choose fat-free/low calorie dressing.

My Girlfriend has that book you mentioned and loved it. I couldn't find it at Barnes and Noble or Borders, but heard it was better to read pre-op anyway!!!

I just saw Dr. Collier yesterday....he was wooooonderful and really gave me a kick in the pants for not exercising like I should be! I think he's such a fantastic surgeon and doctor---so kind, competent and caring. His office staff is great too, just give them a chance and get to know them!!!!

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers,

Toni

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
