Cream Soups and Restriction

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any of you have experienced restriction with the full liquids diet? I am on cream Soups and pudding and not sure how much to eat or if I am feeling restriction.

@@kranky813 That was the second phase of my eating plan after surgery. I did feel restriction on it and I only measured out a couple ounces at a time and usually couldn't eat it all. It depends on how thick you make things.

"Restriction" for me at this point felt more like pressure in my chest. I felt like I couldn't take a deep breath.

Thanks ladies! That is sort of what is happening to me. I eat about 1.5 to 2 oz and feel a pressure and stop. I just wasn't sure if these were "slider foods" or if they would stick in my sleeve.

I am one week out and have no problem getting thicker liquids down, but there have been a few times where I have swallowed too big of a bite of pudding and it hurt going down... took a few deep breaths and waited a bit and then it was fine. I'm not sure that pudding or Soups could get stuck, but you could swallow too much/too often and feel a little back up for a minute... takes some getting used to, doesn't it? :)

It wears off, too. You're swollen and sensitive from surgery. Although the restriction is always going to be there, it gets a lot easier in a matter of a few weeks.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
