How long did the fast weight loss last for you?

Recommended Posts

I lost 100 lbs in the first 3 months. For the longest time I was averaging a pound a day. However, not any more! The fast weight loss stage seems to be over. I've had stalls that last over 2 weeks and if I'm lucky I'll lose 2 lbs a week now.

Babbs was just being funny, she's a sweetheart, I was 346lbs on June 10th my surgery date, and today on September 8th I am at 294lbs, I was at 388 lbs in January, so maybe I've lost 94lbs total, it's slowed to about 1.9 to 2.4 per week but my milestones are being met and I'm ahead of schedule, so I'm not stressing, just like my sleeve the scale is a tool not a foe, it doesn't tell how your life, health and other things have improved significantly, I was wearing a 7x scrub set, I now have to go re-buy a couple of sets probably 3 or 4x, I also purchased shorts and a shirt for the beach 2 weeks ago and instead of a size 60, it was 48-50, most importantly is my muscle increase and the fact that I'm happy....... Slow down or no slow down I'm this for life.....

As the others have said above, it definitely depends on what you are doing, eating etc. However, I noticed that my first month the weight was flying off. Now, I am typically losing about 2 lbs per week for the last couple of months. I have never gained, but I have had weeks when I don't lose any.

If everything they say about the body and mind being in shock for awhile has merit, it would make sense, you've literally removed most of your stomach and we flip our diets completely, then we start moving more and more and I (don't want anyone mad at me) was sedate and complacent for many years, I guess the body from time to time just says " hey woe what the hell are you doing man??"eventually the beautiful part is we get in sync.....

I am also in the 3 week stall at the minute :( so I don't know how/if things will pick up after this, it was going so well the first 2.5 weeks!

Just focus on how far you've come, those stalls play with your head, I have seen a large percentage of gastric surgery patients go through the stall, I think it's very common and it would be easier to get past it when people realize most of the people on here get past the stall, isn't it common in life that at times you will take two steps forward and one step back?????

My first 2mths were my biggest leap. I lost 26lbs by my 2 weeks f/u and 32 or 36 lbs by my 3 week follow up. After that I lost pretty steady, but not big numbers like that. Still I hit the 100lb mark by month 10. I notice now I have to really work hard for every ounce, but I'm still losing.

My rate of loss was similar to Livsmom. I lost my first 100 in five months and got to goal by month 7. It slowed down quite a bit after that. However, I do agree that it is not typical to lose that fast. Nor do I recommend it. It really can screw up your hormones and put me into early menopause at 38 years old.

Oh it slows down rather quickly... So as others before me has said, prepare yourself mentally for it. I started out as u alot very fast and now 12weeks its really starting to taper down, 2-3 lbs a week if. I started at 223lbs now at 162lbs... **G/W: 140lbs**

I still haven't hit a plateau - we have more control over this than you might think. Make sure you're eating enough so you don't send your body into conservation mode. A good NUT who understands this issue can help you avoid that trap. Over-restricting is one of those things that will bite you in the butt down the road.

The "stalls" that happen when you're making the correct choices are most often your body working in its own rhythm and nothing to worry about. The numbers people become elated or despairing over in the beginning aren't as important as the overall process. Calm down and do your best. :-)

Thanks Folly. I'm not un-calm, just surprised (at the rapid weight loss) and curious. I also think getting in what your supposed to get in, isn't always completely your choice. I have had to apply so many tricks in the last few days to have my Water and my Protein Drinks palatable. I added orange Crystal light to a vanilla Premier Protein, and had to have flavored water. Yesterday stuck at work with just water and Protein drinks, and I felt extra sick all day.

My weight dropped rapidly during the pre-op diet but has been a pretty steady 2.5 lbs per week since surgery. I've had stalls, but when the stall is over I get a sudden big drop to compensate. I'm at 6 months, average 1200 calories/day and swim 3-5 hours per week.

I lost 13 pounds in 22 days post-op but boy have I hit the STALL. Been at the same weight for 8 days straight. Yes, I weight daily and I don't freak out about things so I'm going to keep doing it. It works for me. Been getting my Protein in and eating about 900 calories a day or so. My walking has stalled out though because of an injury in my groin - hurts like heck. I've thought about adding a Protein Drink or something to get the calories up but I feel fine at this level and it's what my NUT has told me to eat at this point. I'm perplexed but not stressing badly. It's good to read that others have hit this same stall. Hope for the future.

My surgery date was June 23rd 2015 and I have lost 46 lbs to date in 2 1/2 months after the surgery. Total loss is 62 lbs and I have just started to slow down slightly and now seem to be losing about 2 -3 lbs a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
