61 and Getting Sleeved 9/15-need a hand to hold!

Recommended Posts

If it is something you REALLY want and want to commit to lifelong changes, then go for it!! I am 14 months post op and will be 62 next week. My only regret is that I didn't do this when I was younger. I had the bypass (which is a totally different story) but have NEVER regretted it. Good luck!

I am 63 and was sleeved in April 2013. I have no regrets and am glad I chose the sleeve over by pass. I have not reached my doctors goal weight but have lost 90 pounds. It was a slow weight loss and I did very little exercise (shame on me). I am able to walk pain free and can really enjoy the things I love; gardening and travel. Prepare yourself for a lifetime commitment. I will never drink soft drinks or caffeinated drinks of any kind. I eat small meals and have to watch out for those sliders like ice cream that go down so easily. My tastes have changed and I no longer like beef of any sort. A picture of a grilled steak makes me queasy. I cannot tolerate bread, Pasta or rice which is ok since they were never my favorites. I drink a Protein Drink at least once a day and have learned to make Protein smoothies that are a great substitute for the ice cream I love. If you have a specific question, let me know. Follow your doctors instructions and you will be fine!

Hi ladies! I had my sleeve done 2 days ago!! I'm still in the hospital. So easy! I had it done at Tobey Hospital in Wareham Ma, by Dr. Rachael Jones. They keep you for 2 night and take incredible care of you. Small hospitals that have an extensive bariatric surgery program are a great alternative to large city hospitals. They're usually much more quiet and their ratio of patients to nursing staff is better.. Small hospital = attentive service and quiet, healing atmospheres. They were all great!thank you!

Glad you are doing well. My surgery/recovery was remarkably easy. I do remember gas pains which was expected and lasted a very short time. I had trouble drinking even the small amount I was instructed to consume. Follow your doctors instructions and you will do great.

Hi folks-well it's been 5 weeks since my sleeve and it's been challenging to find things I can eat that don't either stick in my chest or go right through me. I'm getting sick of yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding, chicken broth and Water. I hate the taste of all those diet drinks. I had sea bass the other night at a restaurant and it went right through me. (I had about 3-4 tbs). Now I'm afraid to eat in restaurants. Is it too early to be eating Real food, in a restaurant? Will this ever get better? I'm always full of gas, probably because I'm not eating very much. Will that get better? I had a piece of cheese and some pudding with some fat free "kool whip" type stuff on it and now I'm having those intestinal gurgles, so I know what's next! Why??? Help please? I'll talk to my Surgeon Tuesday for my 6 week check up, but hear real experiences really help! Thanks!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
