Respiratory allergy or GERD ?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I'm 5 weeks post op

Gonna list down my symptoms and how they threw me off all directions :/

3rd week started getting a mild cough with a tickling sensation in my throat. My surgeon kept upping my nexium dose and added this drug called ganaton which speeds up stomach movements and aids with Gerd relief. I took some gaviscon and maalox (Otc antacids)

Nothing changed for a week

However I noticed that by the end of that week my cough got worse with v heavy perfumes or petrol odors

So the surgeon asked I check a chest dr.

Couldn't afford it

So I checked with my gp who asked I start an antihistamine and get back to original nexium dose.

Been 8 days with minor improvement

The cough however stared having phlegm, it's either transparent or whitish.

Gp hen asked to start an antibiotic and a cough med that dissolves and kicks out phlegm.

Since then I'm either doing v well

Or v bad! (Been 2 or 3 days into my antibiotic)

My only problem is that I don't know what's wrong

And I don't like keep associating everything with the surgery unless it's really related ! Which i don't know !

It's driving me nuts

I'm more inclined to beleive it's a respiratory allergy (can't afford a lab test) since its triggered by the odors and I don't get heartburns at all.

However if anyone had anyone similar experience can help?

Or if they just know what I should do?

cough gets better when I drink hot or warm anise.

Or when I take a diazapam!

Just so freaked out it could b a permanent thing surgery related. :///

Help?

Sounds like similar symptoms when I was diagnosed with asthma. They thought mine was either triggered by acid reflux and/or allergies. Symbacort finally got it under control.I am pre-op .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
