Christie, It really depends on what type of band you have. I have the AMI band and have to travel to NYC for my fills, but there is a doctor in Ithaca, NY (Dr. Mecenas) who does fills for the lap band that is approved here and there is also a doctor in Port Jervis, NY (Dr. Kwon). He does fills for all kinds as well.

Good Luck, Barb

Hi sheeanisland

I would like to share with you A couple of things I "wish" I knew...before my Surgery..

Make sure your getting an FDA approved BAN !!! I have the swedish band which is not FDA approved and finding a Dr. to do fills is terrible.

When they first put on my band, they did not tighten it at all. It took me from November till January before anyone would do a fill. I had 0 weight loss and was very fustrusted !!!

Here is how my fills went.. After the 1st fill (3 cc's), nothing, after the 2nd (3cc) nothing... then finally in February I had 2 more cc and that was the trick.. I have lost 50lbs and am feeling great !

You will still need to work at the weight loss, excerise... watch what you eat.. limit those carbs an watch your portion sizes. This is not a magic fix, but it helps keep you on a diet program.

I average a weight loss of 1.5 to 2 lbs per week. I am happy with the band, and glad I went thru the process.

Let me know how your doing, stay in touch.

Christie

Oh sounds like you are doing great! The doctor I am seeing Dr. Rumbaut is very highly recommended. So should I ask the doctor to put saline in it before I leave mexico. Keep up the good work. Let me know how your doing.

Thanks!

Andrea

I live in Elmira, NY and I went to the Rochester General Hospital laproscopic banding seminar this month. It was very informative and I like the surgeons. I also went to the Buffalo Sisters of Charity seminar on the same and like the surgeon there. I have to go to Buffalo because it is the only place that takes my insurance which is Medicare.

I have Medicare as my primary insurance and Medicaid as my secondary insurance. Rochester takes people that have Medicaid as their primary insurance, or that has other insurances, of course.

I weigh 260 and need to get down to about 130. ug.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
