Protein for vegetarians

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any advice other than a boiled egg? I can't stand the shakes and aspartame in them as well as anything else they want to sweeten with out adding calories.

Seitan, chickpeas, lentils, spinach, eggs, cheese but I've been having issues with nausea. I'm trying to find a Protein Drink or something that isn't gawd awful.

Sometimes I would have trouble with the Protein drinks that had a creamy texture or were made with milk or yogurt. What helped me was the Syntax Nectars. They have many many flavors. Oddly, my favorite was the grapefruit, because I fixed it with Crystal Lite Lemonade and it tasted JUST LIKE Fresca soda, which I can't even get anywhere around here, You can get a sample pack from a number of places. I got mine here:

I usually made it more dilute than what they say.

Vegetarian here. I do eat eggs, but I also like plain, greek yogurt. FAGE 0% is brand of choice. For Protein supplement I prefer Isopure unflavored and my nutra bullet. It is plain, 100% whey Protein isolate with no added flavorings or sugars. I mix the Isopure with yogurt, with vegetable broth, coffee, tea, etc.. I also eat bean, legumes, seitan, tofu, tempeh, dark green leafy veg. such as spinach, kale or broccoli, and cheese. I am allergic to most artificial sweeteners. I can occasionally use sucralose aka splenda, but try not use it often. I prefer to use raw, locally sourced honey but do not use it often.

I use the Isopure and make my own Protein drinks. Typically it's yogurt, Protein powder, fruit, spinach and Water. I can also tolerate the Isopure green tea, black and coconut Protein Drinks.

If you are having trouble with nausea, call your doctor and get a prescription for that.

I didn't know they had a flavorless one. I have a bunch of the apple melon. It's ok but still a bit too sweet. That's a good idea though thank you for the tip. I do have a nausea patch and sea bands on. I'm starting to think maybe it's something with my intestines /bowels. I dunno anymore. I miss a tempeh Tomato and just mayo sandwich. ...

I mostly do lettuce wraps now. The bread isn't worth the extra carbs and they fill me up too fast. Tempeh, tomato with a touch of Just mayo in a romaine leaf works just as well. If the OTC anti nausea stuff doesn't work, talk to your doctor. Unflavored works for me because I can control the sweetness and also add it to savory items.

Yeah I didn't think of a plain one but it would make things much easier. Gotta finish what I bought first though so I'll try watering it down some. My doctor gave me a patch to wear but still have issues even though it helps some.

Mmmm lettuce wraps sound good!

I second the nectar drinks! I like the iced tea & lemonade the best. But they have tons of different flavors to choose from. It is one of the only brands I could tolerate right after surgery.

I get mine from Nashuanutrition.com & also buy individual sample packets so I can try a flavor first.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
