Hello Marie! I'm Abby. I had my RNY on August 17th, almost three weeks ago. What questions do you have? I can try to answer them to the best of my ability. You're in the right place for advice and support. Welcome! :)

I have a quick question for you and I hope it doesn't offend; how much weight have you lost since having surgery?

I've only been weighing myself once a week since my scale is broken and I go to my doctor's office to get weighed. So I don't know what I am at the momement but at exactly two weeks it was ten pounds. I'm sure it's more now, as it's been almost another whole week and all my undies are already starting to be too big. XD but yeah, ten pounds in 14 days, though it was probably more than that because you gain a few pounds in the hospital from the iv fluids.

I lost 20 pounds during my two week pre-op diet. I was shocked I lost that much because I did struggle a bit while I was on it. I had RNY on August 13th and since then have lost an additional 18lbs.. I have wondered how in the world I managed to lose 20 in two weeks before surgery then in the 3 weeks since not lose another 20 but then I realized I was needlessly focusing on numbers which I shouldn't be doing. I think I know why. Before the two week pre-op diet I didn't make any attempt to change my diet. I had food funerals and drank my beloved orange soda. The last thing I ate was a snickers bar and an orange crush... Since then I haven't had an ounce of soda no sweets or even a desire for a sweet. I have had savory cravings but I think I finally have convinces myself I can control it.. I am five weeks since my pre-op diet and have almost 40 pounds gone to show for it when I look at it that way I have to be satisfied. After all it took me years to get here its gonna take some work to get it off. Good luck and be patient and make the best choice for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
