Having Surgery Young

Recommended Posts

I am only 19 years old and will be turning 20 by the end of this month. I decided to have this surgery about a month and a half ago and I've already completed my pre-surgery checklist. I should be able to schedule my surgery within the next few weeks. I've noticed that when I research the sleeve and success stories, not many of the sleevers are young like me. Is anyone else having this surgery in their early 20's? It would be great to connect with some individuals who made this decision at a young age such as I am!

I know! I thought I was alone in this and it's so awesome to find other young people like me. Especially girls who can relate!

I'm quite certain this is when I'll be having my surgery too! My final decision appointment is this week! I'm so anxious to schedule the surgery! We should find a way to keep in contact! ????

I saw a YouTube vid of a young lady who was about 22 or so. I'm 31. I wish I had known about the sleeve or thought about surgery when in was younger. I should be able to have mine between December and January.

I'm 32, and am so happy I had the surgery now. I feel "young," just because so many in this forum are 20-30 years my senior. The resounding feeling seems to be, "I wish I had done it sooner," so good for you!!

I'm 28 and mines one month away (11/10). My birthdays in December and I think what's most exciting for me is knowing by the time 30 creeps up in a year I should be at or below goal! It's making me much more excited for my 30s.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
