Joining Weight Watchers

Recommended Posts

I am 6 months post op and have lost close to 80lbs. At this point I can eat everything and considering the sleeve, pretty large portions. I am thinking about joining weight watchers to have a more balanced approach towards food.< /p>

Has anyone done the program after surgery?

Seems like a good idea to me. I'm going to consider this once I'm in the maintenance phase.

I followed the weight watchers point system pre-op and used the app to track my food. The challenge with the weight watchers program is that it doesn't help you manage your macros, so if you are tracking Protein you have to do it outside their system.

I'm not sure if it will help just because on weight watchers there are too many way to cheat. The points allowed are too high post surgery. Points is just a gamification of eating, there are so many ways to exploit that system if you want to. The portions and calories they allow are still going to be too much for a sleeve patient.

Overeaters Anonymous would probably be a better support option, and it won't cost what Weight Watchers does.

What are your portions like? How are you struggling with Portion Control? Have you tried to reset with liquids for a few days? What is your Protein goal? Are you meeting it daily? Are you snacking? What are your food choices like?

Honestly, its a big waste of money.. There are plenty of free apps you can use to track your macros. Spend the money on a trainer and a bariatric nutrionist instead or maybe a counselour (but you don't need that either). Low carb is the way.. Or lower carb. No sugar.. veggies and meat.< /p>

I don't know if you can eat the amount of points required for Weight Watchers, and I wouldn't know how to even adjust them accordingly. I agree with @Chrystee....just continue to concentrate on protien first (keeps you satisfied longer) and veggies and lower sugar fruits like berries.

Just keep eating clean, real food and stay away from processed food and sugar. But by all means, if you think you need the support of Weight Watchers, they are amazing for that! Maybe one of the counselors know how to deal with a WLS diet and the points system?

I used Weight Watchers several times pre-op and found that for me it was easy to overdo the carbs. This is likely the reason the last time I tried Weight Watchers I didn't lose weight. I've found MyFitnessPal much better for tracking what I eat both pre and post-op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
