Wow....hurt! What is this?

Okay....I've been banded about a month. I've never PBed....slimed.....or "gotten anything stuck".......

But after being up half the night and still sore.....wondering if anyone else has had this situation.

I ate last night.....nothing really out of the ordinary....at the lake with friends. (half of a margarita; maybe 5 tortilla chips with guacamole; and maybe a snack plate of fajita meat and refried beans--10 small bites at the most....and this was over 3 hours at least)

I began to "gas" up.....pain that radiated into my neck and back....could feel my stomach churning and bubbling.....felt very nauseated....nothing relieved the pain in my stomach, back and neck.

So did I do something wrong? Eat to much? Can you feel food "stuck" in the stoma elsewhere besides the chest?

I'm doing only liquids today and my stomach still aches!

I have been banded nearly 4 months and fortunately, I have experienced little gas and never reflux. PB'ing ...YES!! However, I do remember how a gall bladder attack felt 9 years ago, and it could be an issue for you??

When I PB'ing my Doc's nurse tells me to do clears / liquids for a day or two. I must be a slow learner, because I didn't think about that until last Monday when I called her. Duh!!!

Good luck...and as always, I am not a medical professional and if the pain continues....see your doctor!!

I had a similar experience about 4 weeks after banding, though I had not had any fills yet.

My pain would kick in about 1.5 - 2 hrs after I ate, and last for several hours. This went on for almost 2 weeks, then died out on its own.

By the time I could get in to see my surgeon, it was all over. He had an ultrasound done to see if there were gall stones. Nothing showed up, but he then offered to do a hydascan (its a newer test that can detect smaller gall stones). Since my symptoms had passed and have not returned, I decided against the test, but that will be my first move if symptoms return.

I talked with my mom about my symptoms, and she said they matched her one gall bladder attack exactly.

I've come to believe I somehow ticked off my GB and it had to throw a bit o f a temper tantrum. Dr. says that shouldn't happen, that GB probs are either infection or stones, not just inflammation. I've talked, however, with MANY people since then who have had one "attack" and then nothing more, so...

If the pain persists, I'd see your surgeon ASAP.

was anything greasy... because i found that i have bad band pain after eating anything thats too greasy.. i also found that my band like something one day and the next completley hates it... take things slow and you'll eventually get use to working with your band...

i've been banded almost 4mths and am still learning somethings i never knew.:)

I think you are probably right!!!!.....come to think of it I've done it before the band.....after a long stretch of eating low-fat and then bam....eating something high in fat and about an hour or half later ( I like the analogy..."temper tatum" !! lol!) it would occur!

Think I'll play it safe....liquids today....

Thanks y'all!!!! Always so kind and "johnny on the spot"!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
