How much could I potentially lose 2 months Post Op - I have a BMI of 38

Recommended Posts

Surgery date is October 5, 2015 and my wedding date is December 5, 2015. I'm having a revision from the band to the bypass. I realize that the wedding dress I have now will have to be scrapped as I will probably lose too much...

How much could I potentially lose if following all the rules? I understand that weight loss varies depending on so much. My BMI is at 38 now.

Any thoughts or experiences? I didn't have rapid lost at all with the band so I don't know what to expect.

Thank you!

Yes, but the beading work on the dress will make it cost prohibited.

Not to mention the time needed to do serious alterations.

My seamstress says she will work with me because she doesn't want me to have to worry about a dress last minute. That's good.

I started out at the same BMI (maybe 37). I had my RNY August 11 (a little over 3 weeks ago) and have lost 30 pounds as of this morning. Of course, the first 10 were due to the preop diet. My doctor told me since I wasn't as heavy as most who have the surgery, I wouldn't have a 30 pound weight loss month, but it looks like I'm going to be close. If I had to guess, I'd say you would probably lose 40-45 pounds by December if you do everything correctly and exercise. Good luck and congrats on your wedding!

I am already looking for alternative dress styles, like free flowing. I'll also be working my arms, too. Although I think my extra skin is going to be a fact of life.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
