mommiranda 0 Posted July 8, 2007 I am a serious coffee addict, but how many of you were able to drink coffee? My doc has one week of Clear liquids post-op. This means gatorade, coffee, tea, Protein Shakes, sugar-free Jello, bouillon .... I had some this morning, 24 post surgery, with no big effects. In fact, the biggest problem is that I am not getting the caffeine I am used to. Thanks for any thoughts on coffee... MM
insubordination 0 Posted July 8, 2007 My post-op diet sheet allowed coffee and tea straight away. However, it recommended 1 cup only.

faithmd 14 Posted July 9, 2007 One cup here or there is not such a bad thing from what I understand. Caffeine does irritate the stomach to a degree, but the biggie is that you really need to keep yourself well-hydrated and caffeine is a diuretic. So if it's tough for you to drink enough Fluid, and part of that fluid (caffeinated) takes AWAY your body's Water supply, then that's bad.
