Is my gallbladder failing?

Recommended Posts

Don't worry, if symptoms persist or worsen, I'll call my surgeon or go to the ER asap, but I was wondering if anyone who *didn't* have their gallbladder removed during WLS experienced anything similar.

I'm two months out, and for the past two days, I've had feelings of abdominal heaviness. Not pain, tenderness or even discomfort, just a feeling of fullness. I don't want to eat, I feel full faster than normal, and when I do eat, I sometimes have brief sensations of nausea (not something I ever had before). What makes this complicated is that I'm also finishing up menstruation (sorry dudes who read this ;) ), so it's difficult to distinguish the symptoms from the usual cramped/bloated feelings from this time of the month (last month I don't remember having the same menstrual cycle symptoms, but I was only three weeks out of surgery then so everything still hurt!)

Anyone have any perspective? Have you had symptoms even without a gallbladder? Anyone experience appetite/sensory changes during their period? Anyone have their gallbladder out a few months after surgery due to failure?

hi BarrySue, i can only advise of my own experience. I had my gallbladder taken out 3 months after i had my sleeve done. I felt extreme nausea and pain under my right breast. When i was in ER the doctor did a quick check on me by quickly jabbing me under my breast, that just sent me through the roof, he knew then and there that it was my gallbladder and sent me in for an ultra sound which confirmed it all. 2 days later i was on the operating table having it removed.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm not feeling anything that acute yet, thank goodness.

I had my gallbladder remove 2 years ago and the pain is crazy. It would last for several hours and then go away and this could go on for a couple of days, until it flared up again. Definitely talk to your doctor so they can keep track of your symptoms and see if they need to do more testing, and maybe you'll able to avoid unnecessary pain and surgery. Good luck

VSGmary, can you tell me how your recovery from the gallbladder surgery was? I'm two months post-op from RNY, and having to have the gallbladder out next week.

VSGmary, can you tell me how your recovery from the gallbladder surgery was? I'm two months post-op from RNY, and having to have the gallbladder out next week.

Hi @@fairgge, my recovery was 5 weeks. I could not drive for the first week along with lifting anything heavier than a couple if kilos. I was under strict orders to not try lifting things - this was the most annoying part of the recovery as i live alone and i had to wait for my beautiful mum to come over to help me.

With regards to diet, i had no problems eating normal foods, however at that stage of my weight loss journey i wasn't eating much as it was anyway. I was advised to stay away from fried foods which i did.

Wish you all the best with yours!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
