I so wish I would have made this decision when I was 18. I missed out on so many adventures because of low self esteem or physically not being able to do it. I am 30 just starting the process. My family is also 100% about food. Almost all of my family has a food problem. I'm really worried about Thanksgiving too. We also have family night every Tuesday where we get together and eat together. Every get together is planned around a meal. Good luck on your journey!!

@@chasingchloee, whatever decision you make, as the others have said, you are to be congratulated for making this journey. And follow your surgeon's diet, bring a food processor, get your Protein in, and have fun. We are here to support each other. Bring your walking shoes, headphones, books. Bring things that inspire you; that one magazine with the outfit you want to wear soon, that clothing magazine you know you're going to, pictures of friends and family that love and support you. Have someone you can call for support. And enjoy yourself. Find joy in your journey. You can do this!!

I am in the middle of planning a Thanksgiving dinner with my family (had surgery on Aug 17th and I will be 3 months out).

So far it hasn't bothered me at all that people can eat until they are bursting and I can't.

I will have bites of the things that I love (turkey, mashed potatoes and sweet potates) and I will be full and satisfied.

I have no plans to stop being social! I will just eat less.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
