BMI and self pay

Hi,

Does anyone know if surgeons will do weight loss surgery on people with a BMI of around 33 and with long-term struggles with weight loss? I know insurance won't cover that without any comorbities but will surgeons do weight loss surgery on that kind of BMI for people who are self pay?

When I first met with my surgeon my BMI was a 35 with no co-morbidity. I did gain some weight in the year that I saw him which brought me to a 36. He was very open to doing the surgery as long as I followed the entire plan (which is why it took a year) I was also self pay since insurance wouldn't cover it.

If you are self pay I would think you could get a Dr in Mexico to do it. They seem far more understanding than Drs ruled by ins co's.

I had 33 BMI . Dr.pleatman Did my sleeve on August 20.

It just depends on the Dr

Depends my BMI is 33 and my surgeon. Dr. Rao will do surgery for BMIs 30 and above with hx of going up and down in weight.
