Chicken of the Sea Salmon Cups

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried these? I tried the honey BBQ and I liked it. They are small cups and sell for about 78 cents. They are the perfect size for a banded persons appetite. My only problem with them is that I could not find nutritional info on them. There was no listing for calories, carbs, Protein, etc. Does anyone know the nutritional info for these?:cry

Oh!! I love those! I can help with the nutrition info...at the store I go to they sell them in separate cups and in two packs, and the two packs have the info on them. Except I haven't found a two pack of the honey bbq salmon, just the singles, but they are really good.....

This is for the plain tuna and plain salmon....

1 tuna cup / 2.7ozs

80 cals

Protein 18g

1 salmon cup / 2.7ozs

80cals

14g Protein

Carbs are 0 on both

I buy these allll the time. :)

You can get the info at their website, it was a bit hard to find, though. Here's the link:

I tried the mandarin orange pink salmon, EWWWWWW. It makes me nervous to try the other salmon varieties. I won't touch tuna if someone has a gun to my head, so that's out... (Sad, I know)

Thanks Faithmd! That was what I was looking for. OOOH those honey bbq are a little high in the carbs. I thought the mandarin orange sounded a little yucky but the bbq are really good. I may try the tuna next.

In the process of getting ready for a Banded-Life I've been buying a lot of those kinds of foods. My favorite was the Cajun one, even though I'm not a fan of really spicy food, I thought some of the other ones were a little too sweet tasting, but I love the Cajun flavored one!

REALLY stupid question here, but does Salmon have mercury? I am drawing a complete blank (again) but is mercury an issue for salmon?

I have asked this before, I have researched it, I don't remember. I think it is a mental block from all those gross and nasty salmon patties on Friday nights growing up as a Catholic kid. I used to swear that as an adult salmon would never pass my lips again. I bought a can of it months ago and I can't bring myself to open it. I think a monster is going to climb out of the can and gag me.

I eat wayyyy too much tuna. WAY too much. As much mercury as I consume I swear I'll either glow in the dark someday or be like a thermometer and grow taller the warmer it is outside. Freaky concept considering I live in a desert. ;)

Ooooo, I NEVER eat canned Salmon. I also had toooooo many Salmon patties as a kid. EWWWWWW! I would go hungry on those nights because I thought they were tooooo disgusting. I am not a fish fan at all. I DESPISE, I mean truly truly truly DESPISE tuna. The mere thought of it repulses me, the smell makes me immediately gag. Needless to say, I am not a fish fan.

But that having been said, I really do like FRESH salmon. And it does have to be fresh. If it smells fishy, I won't touch it. I love it broiled with some lemon juice and dill on it, or with a bbq glaze. But these cups were awful. Though the various flavors offered in the tuna varieties would probably be pleasing to tuna eaters.

I don't know about the mercury in salmon specifically, but when I was at Trader Joe's yesterday, there was a sign above the canned fish that said that ALL fish has at least traces of mercury in it. I'm guessing that would include salmon.

I tried Talapia (sp???) last weekend. I'm a tuna fan but not an overall fish fan and this stuff wasn't bad. A friend made it. She put all kinds of spices and lemon juice on it and cooked it. It was okay but I would have probably enjoyed it more if I was a fish fan.

Orange roughy is good but sheesh... you buy a pound and it cooks down to an ounce.

Not sure if I can bring myself to eat any kind of salmon... blech. I think I would have to not know what I was eating before I could try it. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
