Yeah approved for a revision!...But getting married in December...thoughts?

Recommended Posts

I posted this in the revision forum but I want to cast my net out wider...

I was finally approved for a revision from band to bypass!!! I'm excited. EXCEPT...I'm getting married in December and I already have my dress (which is in the middle of being altered), I won't be able to eat (I probably won't want to anyway from the stress) and I'm afraid that I might be sick if I get it beforehand. The earliest is at the end of September, wedding date is December 5. Also, if I weight too long then I might lose my approval.

My questions is, how long did it take after surgery for you to feel "normal" and not sick?

Thoughts? (is this the right forum to post on?)

Thank you!!

I got my surgery on Aug 25th last year and I can say I felt normal by thanksgiving/Christmas time.

@@snowkitten I remember suffering from postpartum depression after my daughter was born (this was 15 years ago!) and I was in some kind of weird fog for a long time. I'm wondering if there is a "hazy, fogginess" associated with the bypass?

Ask your Dr as well as the folks here. Looks like you would have 8-9 weeks to recover if you had surgery at the end of Sept. The dress well that is another thing. Would probably need altering again but what's that compared to starting out your new life as a married woman on the road to so much better health. What does the groom think?

He agrees with you completely, The first thing he said to me when i walked through the door was to get it done. And not to wait. He knows how badly I've wanted it. I'm so excited!

I'm exactly two weeks out today (woohoo!) and I'm well on the way to feeling "normal". I get tired still but my pain is virtually gone, I can sleep curled up on my side like I always do, I went grocery shopping today and it was about 30 minutes of walking around, and I felt no pain, only a little fatigue. I think with that much extra time to recover, you will be perfectly fine! Just my opinion and experience though. :) Do what sounds and feels right to you, and what your doctor recommends. Congratulations on the several good things that are happening for you.

When I weighed myself last Wednesday, I had lost 8 pounds (ten days after surgery). Unfortunately my stupid scale is broken so I won't know how much more I've lost since then until tomorrow or the next day when I can get to my doctor's office. :P

I had my surgery on 7/2/15. I went back to work in 2 weeks and it has been smooth sailing since then. I haven't had any issues. It really just depends on you. But you probably will need to get your dress altered again, because you will lose pretty quickly in the beginning.

I have my surgery date - 10/5 - wedding exactly 2 months after. How much weight do you think I could lose? What is possible? I know this is kind of a silly question

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
