Frustrated and Grateful at the same time

Recommended Posts

I made a post about this previously but my saga continues. I am currently midway through my 6 month supervised dieting for my insurance and one thing my WLS Surgeon requested was that I get clearance from my Cardio Specialist since I have Supra Ventricular Tachycardia.

So I go to the Cardiologist and he takes this opportunity to strong arm me into a PET scan. I had always refused this before but to get his clearance I said OK. So I had the Pet Scan and got a call from the cardiologist saying that he sees an abnormality and he wants me to do an echo cardiogram as follow up.

I do the echo and then I go for consultation with the cardiologist. He then tells me that he wants me to have a have a heart catheterization because he is afraid there might be a blockage or something going on. Needless to say he wouldn't be able to give a clearance without it.

So....I went in and had the heart cath which was quite scary and low and behold I ended with 2 stents in my heart.

Now I have to be on blood thinners for at least 6 months. Since I am on blood thinners most likely the WLS surgeon won't want to take the chance and do my surgery so now I have 3 months of dieting under my belt and no where to go with it. BOO HOO

I am waiting to hear back from the WLS Surgeon to tell me his requirements so that I can make some plans on how to continue.

In any case, if it weren't for me trying to get WLS then I might not have found out about the blockages that I was working on and for that I am thankful.

Oy! It's awful to be derailed.. But the WLS process alone has already saved your life! I would be full of mixed emotions too!

It sounds like you have a great team taking care of you. I know there are days it seems like surgery will never get here, but it will. I had the similar delays with my pulmonologist (resulted in CPAP for apnea) and cardiologist (slight blockage covered by meds), and at the time just seemed to drag the process out. I questioned the need for both at the time, but now realize how much better the CPAP makes me sleep. Heck, I am still waiting for my day to get here BUT I will admit that I have the best picture of my overall health that I have ever had.

I am glad you had a persistent cardiologist, and I am glad that you have taken care of your blockages. This will just make life on the other side of surgery so much better. Good luck on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
