No advice but I'm right there too! Although I was expecting it, it's still worrying! I'm taking 10,000 mg Biotin daily to help with re growth but it doesn't prevent the loss. We just have to ride it out I think ????

I second the Biotin. Viviscal is more expensive but it works too.

You do have to ride it out. Nothing will stop the loss, it is going to happen. Hang in there and try to not pull it a lot. Less ponytails, etc. Mine is falling out like crazy but luckily I have extremely thick hair. I can definitely notice it is thinner.

I started using rogaine for women (you can buy it at most stores) the day I came home from surgery. It prevented the hair loss. About a year post-op I figured I didn't need it anymore and stopped using it. Then my hair fell out anyway. I didn't have bald Patches but it got pretty thin. It has grown back in, thicker than before and curly.

I always wanted curly hair but still have no idea what to do with this mess.

Don't worry, it grows back.:-)

I miss my VAST amounts of hair (but not my vast body)... Been losing for 4 months. I don't even shed as much as most but I can absolutely feel and see a difference. I'm very nervous mine will never come back.... is that possible? By possible I mean common.

I'm sure if I tell you that won't happen a bunch will come forward and tell you it happened to them... but I have never known anyone to have permanent hair loss unless it was male pattern baldness or they were very nutritionally compromised.

Don't sweat it. :-)

As someone stated above, nothing will stop it. However, you can try to limit it by making sure you consume enough Protein and vitamens. Basically, when you lose weight you are actually putting stress on the body which causes hormonal changes which in turn leads to hair loss. This form of Hair loss is temporary. Once your weight stabilizes hair shedding will stop. One trick you can do is to cut your hair short, if possible. This lessons the psychological freak-out of finding a bunch of long hairs in your hands after washing your hair. Men have it better with this and many men may not even tell they are even shedding hair due to men normally having short hairstyles to begin with.

Be careful of using Rogaine for women or similar products. Many people may not realize that these products cause temporary hair shedding as well before any results are seen. Besides, these products are really only good for a specific condition unrelated to the hair shedding associated with a large amount of weight loss.

Learn something every day :-)

It could very well be a coincidence that my hair loss began when I discontinued using Rogaine.

Kind off point but amusing thing about hair. I finally called a friend of mine who has hair very similar to how mine grew back in (Shirley Temple's grandmother on crack is the look I usually have) only hers is extremely dark and always looks so nice and never frizzy.

"Help, how do I tame this? The frizz shampoos and products don't touch it."

"Put some oil in it."

"White people don't put oil in their hair, what else do ya got?"

"You no longer have white people hair. Get some stuff for Black hair."

So I gave it a try. Went to the store and where they sell the products made for "Black" hair found her suggested remedy. Per her instructions, just put enough on my hands to coat them and rubbed it through my hair.

I called her a little later to ask, "What else have you been holding out on me about?"

Less than $5 tamed the frizz into soft, shiny, not oily, bouncy curls. This is maybe the first time in my life I have looked in the mirror and liked my hair without wishing it was some better version of what I got stuck with.

Moral of the story: I got the hair I always wanted. This journey takes and gives in unexpected ways. It's a self-esteem boost for me.

Thanks for all the advice. I have naturally curly hair that has been the bane of my existence all my life. Picture going through high school in the early '70's when long straight parted in the middle hair was the trend. No blow dryers yet or flat irons. Always wanted straight hair.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
