Spastic Esophagus BEFORE Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

My BIL Is checking into having lap band surgery . As I have been telling him about it one of the things he's a bit worried about is he has a Spastic Esophagus now. So im wondering if anyone has this prior to surgery and if it affected your surgery at all . Made it worse, made it better ?

Anything . I have been searching the threads and I see some peoples esophagus' become spastic post op . But I dont see anything that says anyone had this condition prior to surgery .

Thanks for your help

Mindy

Off the top of my head it would seem to me that this could be a significant problem in relation to banding. Bypass too, for that matter. I guess it depends on what his symptoms are and how it affects his ability to eat. What does "spastic" mean, exactly?

From what I can gather from what he's told me so far , ( I have had this problem as well ) It really seems like the issue is when he doesnt chew his food well ( Although I dont think he realizes this is the issue ? Im guessing) it gets stuck or feels like its stuck in his throat and sends shooting pains across his chest . .

I'll try to find out some more info . Thanks for your response .

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
