insurance approved band removal but not revision

Recommended Posts

I already lost 110 lbs with the band but the band needs to come out now because of problems and nothing passing through even after removing all Fluid. My surgeon recommend bypass but I am more for a sleeve.

The insurance just came back and approved removal but not revision since my BMI is 28. How shortsighted. They did not even pay for my band initially since I was overseas and that insurance covered it.

I do not really want to loose that much more weight since many people already ask me if I am sick or anything since I have been loosing so much in the last 4 years, and especially the last 2 years.

If I could maintain my weight without the band I would be happy but I am not sure I have the willpower and most stories I hear or read say that people will gain back their weight even between removal and revision.

I had my band removed August 10th and I have lost 8 pounds. I am currently waiting to revision to bypass. My surgeon even told me that I would probably gain weight after removal since my hunger and cravings will come back. However, I will not allow that to happen. I am still watching my calories 1500 or less and doing Zumba 3 times a week, walking, and dancing 4 times a week, and weight training 2-3 times a week. I have until November before removal and my goal is another 10 pounds loss before then. The only person that can prevent that from happening is myself; )

I just had an appt with my lap band doctor because I was having problems. He stated I needed to have all Fluid removed to see if that fixed my problems, but he said doing adjustments in the future are probably not going to help. Basically my band has failed and starting adjustments again will just repeat my problems again. My insurance will pay for removal but will not pay for new surgery. I am already starting to gain no matter what I do. I lost 90lbs but slowly was gaining again. I am so sad about this. My insurance was not the insurance who paid for first surgery. It is so unfair to live by the politics of insurance company's.

I did the original surgery for a better and healthy life. So now the insurance would rather pay for all the things that will come from not having my band. This as very made me sad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
