ganas 0 Posted July 7, 2007 I had the surgery 2 days ago and overall, I'm feeling pretty good. Sore belly and feeling kind of bloated but getting myself up and moving. Here's my question --- I lost about 11 pounds on the pre-surgery diet and I've eaten hardly anything in the last few days -- why does my scale say I'm 5 pounds heavier than my day of surgery weight??? I'm encouraged that I don't feel hungry --- but I'm discouraged by the scale! Has anyone experienced this?
Sweety 0 Posted July 7, 2007 i Did Experience The Same Thing. I Think Though That It Is From Being Bloated, And Maybe A Little Swollen. I Just Decided To Stay Away From The scale, As The First Month Is All About Recovering From The Surgery, and Giving Your Body That Time To Heal.
ganas 0 Posted July 7, 2007 Thanks -- that's reassuring -- and makes sense. I think it's a good idea to avoid the scale for awhile - I can get obsessive! How are you feeling?
rrkeithsgirl 0 Posted July 7, 2007 After surgery you hold fluids from the swelling that is internal and can last for a little bit. I would agree with not getting on the scale til you go for your first fill so you are not discouraged. Everyone in my support group has said the same thing about the weight going up or the scale not moving downward.
ganas 0 Posted July 7, 2007 Thanks. When are you scheduled to be banded? Where will you have your surgery?

tulips 0 Posted July 8, 2007 This reminds me of when I delivered my oldest child. I'm not kidding. I was retaining so much Fluid and was so swollen that I came home from the hospital weighing 2lbsmore than when I went in. My daughter weighed 7lbs 5 oz. Of course, as the swelling went away so did the weight. In 2 weeks I was down around 15lbs. I'll be banded later this month and with my luck, I'm fully expecting a similar experience. LOL. I hope your feeling well and have a quick recovery!
sjl79 0 Posted July 9, 2007 Yes, it is very disappointing. I was banded on Monday, 7/2 and I weighed myself on Friday and it showed that I had not lost any weight at all. I was really disappointed since all week long I have had nothing but Clear liquids...how can you not lose ANY weight on a Clear Liquids diet??? I am going to try not to weigh myself again until next week...hopefully by then the scale will decide to move some. Sandra L.
faithmd 14 Posted July 9, 2007 Sandra, it may not, but remember the first few weeks after surgery are not for losing weight, they are for healing, you body is hanging onto every calorie it can get to heal. It will go down eventually. Have faith!
