Good "inexpensive" protein powder?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to this forum. It's very informative and I'm grateful. I haven't been able to find suggestions for "inexpensive" Protein powders. I'm on disability and make very little income. Do any of you have some recommendations? If I am not supposed to ask this, please delete. Thank you.

@@HuskerShel Hello, I'm not sure what "cheap" means to you but if you have a SAMs you can get a 3lb container of the Premier Protein powder for @$30

There are 29 scoops so if you did one shake a day it could last a month. It's high in Protein compared to other brands too.

You can also try Amazon. I have found some good prices there too.

Syntrax powders can be affordable also, you just have to shop around for the best price.

Also check vitacost, they have good sales.

The quality of Protein you .need after surgery is going to cost. There really is no inexpensive option, and inexpensive is really retaliative.

Depending on how long it takes you to get to soft food. Soft baked fish, can be a real cost savings. You can do one shake a day and eat swai fillets several times a day. Swai is very affordable and you can get a 2lb bag at Walmart for under $12, and that will last a week.

Getting Protein in on a budget can happen, you just have to plan and shop around.

If you give a budget, people could be more helpful.

Body Fortress (at Kroger, Wal-Mart, Sam's), and Pure Protein (Target) are some of the most inexpensive protein powders I have seen and they tend to get good reviews from people who have tried them.

@HuskerShel There is an advertisement at the top of this forum page every time I view it ... that says some insurance companies pay for your Protein shakes .. you may want to check out that option ! :)

Best of luck to you !! :):):)

I have been wondering about the pure Protein, it meets the requirements my NUT gave. It's less then $20 at Walmart and I've seen coupons in the paper for it.

Hi everyone, thank you all for replying. I ended up buying Body Fortress to try it out for now. I'll try some others for variety. I need to keep remembering that I will be spending less on groceries and restaurants, so I will be able to buy Protein and healthy foods. It's just hard to "believe" it when you are just beginning. It's hard to plop down $30/40/50 or more to buy a Protein Drink. I'm looking forward to surgery the end of next week.

Blessings,

HuskerShel

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
