Tips for eating after WLS

Recommended Posts

I thought I would share this because it really helped me and I still continue to use this method which prevents me from taking big bites. I bought some toddler forks and spoons years ago when I was banded. It helped me take smaller bites especially after WLS. I also use small saucer type plates so that I don't put too much. Measuring cups, spoons and a scale is a must in my kitchen.

Dining out tips,

1. you can bring those toddler forks and spoons with you.

2. I also request half portions or child size portions. I also have a Bariatric Dining out card that I show and request cheaper smaller meals.

3.Ask for doggie bag at the time of ordering.

4. Bring your own low calorie SF drink mix and just add to Water.

Anyone else have tips or ideas? Please share :)

Always weigh or portion your food and keep track of your intakes. It helps so much! Also, keeping a good snack with you when you are out and about.

I agree about being prepared with Snacks. Often the afternoon sneaks up on me and I need to have handy a decent snack.

I try to keep Protein Bars in my purse. Unmeltable.

Or beef Jerky or a small amount of nuts .... It is Water that gets too hot in my car. And I need to be vigilant about enough water.... Daily...still!!

Or there are several web sites that offer both bariatric and carb friendly choices, one of my two biggest were Carl Jr's offers alternative specialty cheeseburgers wrapped in lettuce instead of bread, and Panda Express has several offerings......

Jimmy Johns has lettuce wraps.

At home, weighing and portioning your food is key. Everyone get a scale, they are cheap on Amazon. It will be your best friend.

Make sure you note everything down and read over what you have had that day.

Keep your cupboards stocked so things are to hand.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
