Quantity of Food - 4 weeks out

Recommended Posts

That was my normal for the 1st couple of months. liquids were and still are a slider food for me. I barely felt filled up when drinking my meals. But 1/2 teaspoon of food would feel like a rock in my new sleeve. Most of my meals were 1/2 cup in size and it would take 20 - 30 minutes to eat that little bit.

eggs and chicken were the hardest things on Frankensleeve. The easiest food on him was ground turkey hamburger mixed with refried Beans. I made my own concoction that I lived on for months and never got tired of eating.

Take advantage of this time to change bad eating habits. I tried to eliminate all processed foods/sugar/pasta from my diet during the 1st year and I believe it really changed the flavors I like for the better. Where I used to crave a certain food when I saw it, now I can take or leave it. No more obsessing until I finally gave in and ate 1 or 2 or 10. :-) Getting detoxed from my sugar addiction made it easier to choose the right foods and stay away from the wrong foods easier later on. And all that mental energy I was using to battle my head hunger can be redirected for better uses.

Yes. Your sleeve is still really swollen and narrow from surgery. As you heal, you will be able to get a few more bites in as time goes on.

You do understand the purpose of the surgery is make the stomach very small to limit your eating, right? ;)

I'm 9 wks out and I can still eat 2-4 bites of food and I'm full.

I'm almost 5 weeks out. At this point I'm relying on measuring my portions and timing how long I eat for. I could eat 3 bites and feel full but that's not enough food to sustain me, so I eat very slowly over 30 minutes and get my 2oz serving in. When I'm finished I don't feel stuffed or uncomfortable.

Are you taking your time?

Normal for me. I am 5 weeks out and Soups, yogurts, cottage cheese etc go down a lot easier than chicken, fish etc etc. I am still on 2oz of Protein and I am usually full after that. It's very rare that I even take one bite of veg.

I don't measure anything, but after 3-4 bites, I'm full. I try and stretch it out 20-30 minutes. I'm 9 wks out.

Are you supplementing with something? You can't be getting enough Protein from just a few bites. I have to measure so I know how much protein is in my serving. I'd never meet my goals if I didn't eat my measured portions.

I measure everything as well and dinner takes me 1 hour to eat 3 tbs of food like cottage cheese or yogurt - also the same amount of time to eat 3 oz of meat. I Need to eat a bite and wait 10 mins. I had surgery aug 3. And feel like I am chasing my Protein all day.

my surgey was the day after your just curios how much weight you have lost somce surgery? I weighed last friday and down only 17 pounds I had the RNY

That was normal for me at that stage. I had to do several Protein drinks a day to get my Protein and calories in.

Getting close to two years out and I still need a Protein shake most days And occasionally two to get in the protein and calories I need

ha! Yes and I'm not complaining. Just curious if anyone else can easily drink a large shake but not eat. Thx!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
