Nausea, food aversion, protein nausea, weakness pls help

Recommended Posts

Hi, I had my surgery done on the 19th August ie 11 days ago, and I am in the stage of full liquids. I didnt have complications and I think Im healing well. I had my surgery done in Jordan and I dont have any support here in Qatar.

My problem is nausea after everything I eat, I am relieved in a way that I dont feel hungry but I didnt expect to develop food aversion which depresses me. I just dont want to look at food anylonger, I dont want to taste it, to chew it or drink it, but I have to eat to combat this weakness I have and to keep up my energy levels. Its sad to think I cant even enjoy whatever limited choices of food I have now. Is this going to be my life from now on? I lost 8.2 kg since the surgery. The only Protein powder I found here in Qatar is Womens Pro whey Advantage by Saturn supplements, which has 32 grams per one scoop, its vanilla flavour and it tastes nice, made in USA, however it made me very nauseous, I mixed it in low fat milk. My questions are: 1. is it normal to feel weak and with no energy? 2. what about nausea- do a lot of people experience nausea 3. is anyone familiar with this Protein brand in the States? 4. is the weight loss too excessive? 5. Im buying also canned soups-is this ok? Thank you for your support, Carmen Ali ps -any recipes for full liquids? I was very positive about this surgery and I still am, I believe I needed it but the nausea and full on food aversion are really depressing me, I feel emotionally drained by these 2 unexpected sideeffects.

Here in Texas in the states I was prescribed nausea meds because the effects of anesthesia can linger for days, I also was told to stay away from dairy until further down the road, as for the Protein try to go online to the Vitamin Shoppe and see if you can order the protein, I buy the 5lb tub of low carb( 1or 5 carbs I think) and 25g of protein, @ $49.99 per 5lbs, the shipping may kill you so look for similar on Amazon or EBay, I may be cheaper to ship, also try to get lots of Water in and try to take long walks after your meals, it goes a long way with the nausea feeling..... Good luck, let me know if you figure something out

Everything you are feeling is totally normal. It will all go away. Maybe some anti nausea meds will help. I took Zofran. I am not familiar with that Protein. That's alot of protein in one scoop. If something upsets your belly, don't eat it. Do the best you can. If you don't get all your protein, that's ok. All of your issues will be a distant memory in a few months. You're not losing too fast. Good luck. ❤️

Canned Soup is fine and weakness is normal. Your strength will come back slowly.

Hi there,

I saw slim and fast Protein shake at Mega Mart - Barwa Village, maybe you can try that out.

We are also going to Jordan for our surgery over eid, and maybe we should meet up once you are feeling better. Did you have your surgery with Dr. Khrais?

Try taking some Benadryl for the nausea before getting an Rx for something. It's not widely used as an anti nausea medication but it does work for me!

Im at the point where the nausea is becoming unbearable so I'll give it a try. Thanks. The doctor I saw yesterday said it might be due to acid reflux, which I'm taking a 14 day course of omeprazole and still nothing. It was a waste of doctor visit, I just got a referral to a bariatric surgeon since I didn't get the surgery in the US.

This is to let everyone know that my nausea did go away eventually, Im still out of sorts first thing in the morning, but no big deal now!

Also as the energy levels pick up, the depression goes away.

I would like to know

1. if people are actually measuring every single amount of Soup in the full liquids stage,

2. if people eat by the clock? I mean sipping something every hr?

I dont measure, I just eat and stop when Im full this can take sometimes a full cup (250ml) of Soup eaten (one full soup plate) over 20 min or so. Is this normal? With some liquids, I feel I can take more in, have I stretched my pouch already? Is this fear going away once I start solids?

It is impossible to stretch the pouch with liquids as they pass through quickly. Some liquids you will find more filling than others and that is perfectly normal. I never measured liquids except to be sure that I was getting enough. In the early days I drank by the hour to be sure I did not get dehydrated. Once I was taking in enough fluids I stopped doing that.

Glad to know things have improved!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
