Since surgery I can't stand Protein shakes! It feels like I can taste almost every freakin chemical or whatever is in it. It makes me so nauseated! I am almost 7 weeks out. I am tolerating soft foods fairly well. I prefer food to get my protein! What do you eat that you get your protein in- preferably not adding any kind of protein supplement in! :) thanks every one!

What kind of shakes are you drinking? Haves you tried mixing them on ice?

Have you tried powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury? THey have some that are flavorless. I have heard they are good.

I get mine from food--FF greek yogurt, FF cottage cheese, etc. Note that I a a year and a half out which is why it is easier to get all my Protein from food. Early on, it is difficult.

I have found that it is impossible to get all of the required Protein from just food. I mean physically impossible to eat what you need to eat then drink what you need to drink in the 16 hours you have to do it each day. Like you, I have tried at least 6 different brands and I prefer Quest and AMP, both found at GNC. Good luck!

I feel your pain! I've never had a tasty one that is pre-made. If you have a blender, make your own using Protein Powder (I like Muscle Milk Light, Chocolate). I put two scoops in the container and equal parts Water and ice, totaling about12 ounces, and blend. If the ingredients are cold you will get a slurry consistency. Not as good as Dairy Queen but definitely decent.

Have you considered trying HMR chicken Soup? It is very high Protein, low fat and tastes really good! I used this HMR program many years ago and was very effective. They also have some of the best tasting high protein oatmeal I have ever tried. You can order the foods separately. As you advance in your diet, it can be modified. There are tons of yummy tasting recipes. http://hmrprogram.com/static-assets/html/HMRFoods/HMRChickenSoup.html

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
